Whilst I agree with re snobbery, it is very similar to the lower end of the Guitar market - something silly cheap just wont do the job properly and wont give the level of satisfaction required, and therefore, the noob leaves the hobby as he cant get what he wants out of it.

Spending a few quid more, in both cases gives the user both a more enjoyable experience, and if not, is more easily saleable.....

If that makes sense...
If only Yamaha made air rifles!
Haha, indeed....

Theoben?
Used to make the main body for them, before they took it in house, quality dropped and the company went under.
Yes, Theoben...Interesting.

Thye went bust in a dodgy way IIRC, the owner took the name and was selling them into the UK from abroad for a while. Think it go messy.

Shame , great bits of kit. Really nice to shoot and great triggers/accuracy.

One of the forerunners of PCP.

I posted this just a couple of days ago on a shooting facebook group. I should add, I have been shooting for years, which makes this worse tongue out

I purchased a cheap Remington air rifle for something to play with during the lockdown. It came with a scope which I have never set up before myself. I put the scope on and took it to my Dads for some help xeroing it.

We had been firing and adjusting it for ages. Then I said to my Dad, I think I am just going to remove the scope as its not very good. I can see the target bigger without the scope.

At that point my Dad realised my stupid mistake and fell about on the floor laughing at the gun with the scope on backwards, making everything tiny :O

He wont let me forget that in a hurry.

I ordered was a from Pellpax, the delivery guy was a really nice guy. Clearly rushed off his feet delivering all over the place.

Air guns are expensive to reblue and its not normally cost effective. this is because there are lots of parts to prep compared to say shoptguns barrels. Yoiu should be able to get an as new Scorpion for £150/£175 in the box so unless you really want to blue yours its uneconomic. I can arrange it for you if you want it done though PM me

I have a Weihrauch HW100 and it is very well made. Probably had about 50 pellets put through it in 10 years but it is a nice airgun in my admittedly limited experience with them.

I got mine from Pellpax. They have/had a 4-5 week lead time when I ordered. They had to recruit new drivers according to their website due to CV illnesses.

I also got an adjustable scope which wasn't that much less expensive than the air rifle tbh. I also got the target shooting bundle that they do.

Despite warnings about getting a cheap air rifle, I am really enjoying it. I just shot 50 pellets this afternoon at a target around 40m away. I managed 3 x 10 all on target (the others were an 8 and a 9 out of 10) which I am well pleased with especially as it is a little windy today.

It took me a few days to zero the sights in but now I think that they are almost there. The odd pellet still goes awry but that must be the combination of the wind; the poor ballistics of the mass produced pellets; and my wobbly head biggrin

I figure that if I do carry on enjoying it, I can upgrade to a more expensive rifle; keep the sights; and flog the old rifle. As it didn't cost too much I wont lose that much (well nothing at all really as I'm enjoying it)

Looking forward to when my son can come and visit us after the lockdown as he is a good shot having shot quite a few weapons with the Army Cadets and where he is now an instructor.

Hopefully I can get plenty of practice in until he can visit us so I can kick his ass hehe

Popped up to my mums for the weekend and brother in law said he had been using one of mine for rat catching. I've had both of these since I was about 12-13 , I'm now 31. The BSA was my uncles, so probably a 70s model, last serviced about 2002.

Bottom one is a BSA Meteor which is currently broken (mate of mine is going to service it this week) top one is some Chinese tat I bought from Oulton Park (shooting show if I remember correctly).

Unfortunately a clip that holds the cocking arm secure has broken on it, not sure where to start to get that replaced as not even sure of the manufacturer but it still works.

I restored my 40 year old BSA Airsporter given to me by my dad when I was 13 over lockdown and realised how much fun it was plinking away. I've recently bought an Hw100. if you just want something fun for the garden look at some of the co2 pistols available for around £100, amazing fun and suitably low powered.

Hi

In the need for a winter hobby, more so this year than ever before, I have just bought myself an air rifle. Something I have been thinking about since we bought this house 4 ish years ago.

While I have a garden capable of using it in, there are two issues, it is at the lower end of what is usable, and therefore not much of a challenge and it is not covered for when the weather is really bad.

I have been looking for ranges locally, South Lincs, North Cambs, East Northants, etc.

So far everything I have found either requires you to join a club, the one club range I did go to see seemed to be a bit clicky and I wasn’t keen on that, or there is Ontarget in Northampton that is over an hour away.

Has anybody got any recommendations?

Thanks
