Yes, they have designated rubbish zones, so they aren't just littering all along the route.

Shame about G.

It was a Barhain-Merida bottle. Cant beleive how many stray bottles there were in that section just thrown on the ground right in the middle of the peleton. Ridiculous and an accident waiting to happen. There was a shot of the peleton a bit later on where all the riders seemingly dumped all their food rubbish at the same time creating what looked like some sort of energy bar wrapper confetti. They should get all of the team managers go and pick it all up, or better still just make a rule where the riders just put the st back in their pockets.
I think I'm right in saying they are told where they can dump their rubbish so it can be easily collected.
As above, sounds like the bottle came out on a bumpy road rather than being dumped and G was extremely unlucky. Hard as nails for finishing the stage though!

As I read elsewhere

"If 1Kg bits of F1 car were falling off at regular intervals and hitting other competitors, they'd soon put an end to it!"

But then the UCI has always been run by complete s! So don't expect any change

I mean, can someone explain the point of fining EF $4000 for their team kit? rolleyes

It's cycling, and these things 'just' happen, and will continue to happen; like a stray dog taking riders out, or a police bike stopped in the wrong place taking a load of riders out, etc

No other sport would put up with it.

As usual the UCI have their priorities all wrong; if they're serious about safety, then insist bottle cages are up to the task of holding bottles; the ones used for Roubaix seem fine - make that the standard, rather than lightweight carbon ones which can't do the job.

Another crazy incident today, and one that I don't recall being mentioned on the Quest highlights this evening

Just got the highlights on now.

Uncovered/Unmarshalled posts in the road!

Don't get me wrong, I know parts of Italy are weird, but I'm amazed at some of this!

The motos are all experienced. And they are told where to go by race direction. They aren't just winging it

Frustrating, but a cock up rather than idiocy. Concertina effect.

No where near as bad as Hoogerland all those years ago on the Tour

re: todays stage.

If Sagan had gone LEFT instead of RIGHT. in the final, he'd have had that. Breaking his winless streak has made him believe again
