Random point after the mention of lunch, but was chatting with my Japanese colleague last time we managed to have a game together (Feb 2020), and he said it is entirely normal - in fact it is expected - that when playing golf in Japan they will play 9 holes, stop off for a 3 course meal, then eventually make their way round to the 10th after a generous helping of Sake.
Sounds both like a slow play nightmare, but also a wonderfully civilised way of playing golf.

You could be right, my first visit was with a friend was the full four (?) courses and two bottles of red (we had no idea what to expect ), the second time it was raining so we stayed at the table and was completely fulfilled on our visit and did not even hit a ball!
Haha that sounds about right! The Chateau Beaumont, no doubt. Glad you enjoyed it, sounds like a proper day at Rye.bodhi said:

Wonderful until you realise you can't hit a ball anymore! Done that a few times, 18 holes then lunch then give up after 5 holes and head back to the bar!Sounds both like a slow play nightmare, but also a wonderfully civilised way of playing golf.
Finally replaced my driver I bought off ebay when I started golf 4 years ago, it must have been a few years old then so was probably getting on for 10 years old. Went for a fitting at AB Golf the day after lockdown ended, tried a few different makes but settled on the Cobra Radspeed XB. The numbers were great though - my best hits were easily 20 yards up on my old driver, and even the mediocre strikes were still pretty close to a 100% hit on the old driver. Finally arrived last week and I'm really excited to get out and use the new driver.
First 'competitive' game back yesterday, i don't have a handicap, so was allocated a generous one, in a society I've joined.
Haven't played a competition for about 18 years after giving up as a junior, managed to score 41 points (that included 2 blobs) at Saunton East.
It was also my first ever go on a lincs (if that's how you spell it).
Greens were lightening fast, but what a lovely course. I was reasonably thankful i was good from the tee & at the green, as my iron play was poor.
Both of my blob holes came from missing the fairways, first was a lost ball (forgot the rules about playing a provisional), the second was when my ball ended up in a big pile of reeds, then into another pile, ooops!
I didn't try anything stupid as the bunkers were less than forgiving, being incredibly deep, so rather than stepping up and whacking it, i did really have to think about what i was doing as i didn't know the course.
Managed to win the whole thing, although my society handicap will now be slashed considerably, I'm now working to get 3 cards in for a club handicap that I've just joined.

That does sound a VERY generous handicap, however you still have to get the ball in the hole so congrats Haven't played a competition for about 18 years after giving up as a junior, managed to score 41 points (that included 2 blobs) at Saunton East.

Good effort & all, but that's a very specific world record! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/golf/56927388
Well, after several rounds over 100, I was beginning to think my 21 handicap was just too low for me.
I watched Golf Sidekick’s break 100 videos last night and vowed not to take the driver out today.
All bar 2 shots were 6 iron max today and the focus was stress free golf.
Result was a round of 88 with 38points off 21.
I doubt I’d have done better if my driver was working 100%. This game always throws up surprises.

Went to a driving range in Wokingham last night, every bay had top tracer screen and launch monitor.
Good fun being able to play games against yer mate in the next bay.
Spent the first 20 balls just smashing them , surprisingly straight !
138mph ball speed and 251 yards total.
All club distances were about what I expect on course , reall enjoyable evening.
Not too bad for a 66 year old , I thought ??
100 balls £10 , beers afterwards , what’s not to like

Went to collect (most of) the new clubs today - what a revelation!
Good gapping, well expect for the 6i and 5i which were close for some reason and the new wood (set to 17*) was so easy to hit - tee or ground and the driver shaft was very consistent.
Only thing I'm half regretting was the grips - went for mid-size multi-compounds as per the last set and am finding it hard to square the club face up, something which I think would be a little easier with slightly smaller grips.

The Family Golf have pumped a lot of money into that complex. A few other places have Top Tracer as well, does make the range more excitingGood fun being able to play games against yer mate in the next bay.
