Back to the subject of golf and membership costs.
In winter less work on the actual course is performed so im struggling to understand how much work a full green keeper team can do. I could understand it in March/April when spring arrives.
As said, it is a game for the rich with disposable income so its our own fault, however the future is unknown and is my concern for a lot of clubs, clubs will need to tighten belts OR like tax payers over the coming years are those who have jobs left and are members at said poncy clubs might actually end up having to pay higher green fees?
If lots of members leave because they've lost 12-16 weeks of golf in a year (which was completely out of their club's hands), then yes - those remaining members will have to pay more. Out of those 12-16 weeks, 4-8 weeks would have been in Jan/Feb, hardly top class golfing weather! Indeed with the wet and cold weather we've had recently lots of clubs would have been closed on and off anyway as they are every year.In winter less work on the actual course is performed so im struggling to understand how much work a full green keeper team can do. I think we need a little perspective here.

Thanks for the feedback guys .
I presently have an old TomTom watch that gives front ,middle back, which is what i basically need really., feel lost if I forget the watch or the battery expires mid round.
Battery life is now very poor due to age , only completes a round if it's not too cold and the battery is topped up on the way there, so now I NEED a new watch
Would be handy to pick out distances to bunkers and doglegs, but I mostly play the same 2 course so its not too essential, but once you start looking at the options available its endless.
Looked at the Shotscope V3, but a mate has one and isn't overly impressed.
Other mates who are techies cant see why I shouldn't throw £500 at an Apple watch, but that's too much messing for me.
I can't see myself moving away from physically marking a card, so scoring isn't too important ( I still draw on an old drawing board with pens, CAD free zone .)
Just dont want to spend the best part of £300 and then realise there was a better more obvious answer .
Interesting to see 2 others with a Garmin S60

For the price you won't get anything that's near the shotscope v3 imo, they have this week also just added strokes gained.

My club did a lot of work on the paths around the course during last lockdown, but have furloughed all but enough green staff to keep up with general maintenance this time. There are plans for more of the same and other work to be done, but I think they are being sensible by not spending the cash reserves. They have lost a lot of income from the club house not being in use.
My FiL's club have accelerated their tee replacement program and are doing all 18 holes over this winter. Plus other minor work. So have all their green staff in.
People screaming for a reduction in fees would probably benefit from spending a year or two on a committee trying to run a golf club.

If mine was being sensible with cash reserves I'd be happy, however they aren't. I think a lot of people realise they will need to be after this year now.

The latest P Reed cheating was quite outrageous yesterday. I’m not sure how he’s got away with it to be honest.
He's a flat out cheat. Telling the rules official that it didn't bounce was just the actions of a low life. Given his undeniable talent, to be doing this sort of stuff is sad and rather pathetic.lastexile69 said:

Anyone notice my post above re use of yellow ball >
Do many pros use the yellow one ?
Its not common, but not some of the premium balls are available in colours other than white it might become more common. I'm sure a few on the seniors tour use yellow. Maybe Freddie Couples. Do many pros use the yellow one ?
Bubba sometimes plays with coloured Volvik balls.

Thanks, I hadn't seen it before. The guys I play with seem to look down on coloured balls for some reason.
Many golfers are rather stuck in their ways. They will often claim to be old fashion. But still use a £400 titanium driver with a carbon fibre shaft, rather than a persimmon driver with a hickory shaft I bet they also complain about hoodies on the course and spikeless shoes.
Vet yourself some of these and have a bit of fun with them.

Jordan Speith is back.
Fabulous round at Scottsdale today.
It was a great round. A few bounces went his way. Hopefully he can keep it up. Fabulous round at Scottsdale today.
Anyone else find it frustrating watching DJ putting. He's so slow. If hes closest, he waits for the othes to putt then starts to read his putt. Which takes him and his brother an age.

I can't say I've noticed that with DJ but I don't take a lot of interest in him. He's not someone you can warm to!

A brilliant round. He’s still all over the place off the tee though. If he carries on like that he’ll continue to struggle. No one can make enough long putts to make up for what he’s losing off the tee recently. Fabulous round at Scottsdale today.
I had a slightly irrational dislike for JS before he plummeted down the rankings. I think it was because he was quite slow. Since he’s struggled I’ve missed seeing him around the lead on Sundays.
Edit... at the very moment I posted that, he hooks one into the water on 15.

DJ is very slow on the putting surface.
DJ is not someone you can take to, his facial expression (if you can call it that) reminds of a movie type cold blooded killer.
