Apart from the club secretary bit, I have the same time constraints.
However, given how little I was playing, to give myself 1 shot per hole today and get 42 points with first outing of new clubs, I'm quietly optimistic it can happen.
Yep, it’s certainly promising! Go for it and keep us posted. However, given how little I was playing, to give myself 1 shot per hole today and get 42 points with first outing of new clubs, I'm quietly optimistic it can happen.
Remember, with the WHS your handicap is based on the best 8 scores from your last 20, so you can make it change super quickly compared to the old system. Just keep putting cards in!

That’s me! Can fire off half a dozen holes at level par and everyone calls us bandits...
Weirdly I feel like I’m a better golfer now off 15 than when I was single figures 10 years ago before I stopped playing. I think I was just much better off the tee (longer and straighter) in my first golf career. The courses are easier with wedges from the fairway instead of mid irons round trees. I make most of my double bogeys from crap tee shots so target this week is to get 18 decent tee shots away (turn the fecking hips!)

Played the midweek medal and hit 14 decent enough tee shots. Four ste, ste hooks off tees cost me probably 8 shots. Must just be flipping the hands over on them I think.

I played 9 holes with my 15 year old son yesterday evening. Whilst we've been playing for a few years, it's really been a struggle. However, we have both just 'clicked' over the last month or two and we are hitting fairways, rarely duffing shots, holing some reasonable puts etc. It's the first time, we've enjoyed Golf solely as a game, getting real satisfaction out of it. Previously, we were finding it massively frustrating.
Atop of that the course was practically empty and in magnificent condition.

Blimey that’s my old club, joined when it opened in 1993/4 ish. Left around 2003 as I had two young kids by then so stopped playing.Still in touch with them and Stuart Mence etc.Atop of that the course was practically empty and in magnificent condition.

Best round for me yesterday evening for a long time.
Shot 12 over, 2 doubles & a triple ruined it a bit for me, missed 2 really good birdie chances too (inside 2 foot which was annoying).
The hours of coaching & really practicing my short game are starting to pay off, apart from missing a few putts last night, although i'm putting that down to the greens transitioning from really slow after the recent rain to really speeding up.
Only annoyance was playing behind 3 4 balls (we were a 2) & they didn't once offer to let us play through.

Were they playing slow? You can ask to be allowed through when a suitable hole presents itself to give the opportunity.
Some course layouts are no good for letting players through as all it does is back everyone up unless those being let through are excellent players and fast to clear.
If you have it again and really feel you're being slowed down terribly, ask the group in front and if refused call through to have the course Marshall come out. At most of the clubs I play at though they won't agree with you unless you're being impeded by slow play.

Anyone hot on hcap rules?
I play at a pretty old fashioned club. And recently won a comp in my division.
After it was cut to by best score ever which I was delighted with. Let’s say I was 25 over my playing cap was now 25.
But I’ve since been chopped another 4 shots. Meaning my hcap is now 4 shots lower than my best ever score. And no one has told me why or what has happened. I certainly wasn’t informed they were going to change it - and I’ve submitted no more cards.
I think the club doesn’t like new golfers winning. In fact they have even changed the rules after a comp to stop me winning once. But only changed the rules for me. The higher caps who are mates with the committee didn’t have their caps reduced to a set limit for the comp. I let that go but feel like they are victimising me a bit now.

Did you have any blow-up holes? Triples or more? - my club round them down to a double at worst. So if I shot a +10 round with 2 quad bogeys I'd get a +6 round for handicap purposes. I play at a pretty old fashioned club. And recently won a comp in my division.

There is also standard scratch to consider - if it's 3 over for the day, you've in effect shot 3 under that handicap too.
God knows how this HC system works.
My 54 holes worth of cards were:
26 over (18 holes)
16 over (18 holes)
16 over (9 holes)
6 over (9 holes)
When they sent out the club welcome pack, they said the initial handicap is put together by the handicap committee & then a HC ID is issued for you to use on the WHS.
I got my handicap this morning: 9.1
I thought i was going to be given around 14/15, admittedly i am better than the 26 over 18 & 16 over 9 holes i carded above, but the best ever round i've had over 18 holes at my club is 13 over!

New bats arrived yesterday (finally) - except I added a 4 iron and they forgot to put it in so just have 5-GW
Went to the range last night and think an adjustment period will be needed, as going from a hunched position playing with clubs that were too short I then proceeded to hit pretty much everything out of the toe - best 2 shots I hit were the last 2 balls out of 2 buckets. To be fair those 2x 5 irons made me feel a million dollars when I saw the carry though

Had a lesson on Tuesday. I have been quite inconsistent lately and was getting frustrated... The pro saw my issue in 3 swings - I had let a bad habit get back into my downswing (right elbow not tucking in..) which was the root of the issue - I was able to correct it at the very last moment of the backswing, but this was definitely not happening consistently - hence frustration. Good coach's are so worthwhile. Now all I need to do is ingrain the fix before next weekend, when I have an annual 2-round doubles tourney, which if we lose, we will not hear the end of until the following year. Range time...

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It will sort itself out pretty quickly under WHS as you put in more cards. This is the beauty of it for me now its easy to put casual rounds towards your HC and your HI will go up pretty quickly if it needs to. My 54 holes worth of cards were:
26 over (18 holes)

My initial 3 cards were 97, 95, 91. I was given a HI of 14.4. That jumped to 19.5 after a couple of rounds and has dropped steadily to 11.4.
There are a few quirks. Anything over a double bogie is rounded down to double. If you look on My England Golf at your scores you can see where the adjustments have been made.
Also, if you play 9 holes that score is extrapolated to an 18 hole score

Anything over a double bogey has always been rounded down to a double bogey - that isn't new! My initial 3 cards were 97, 95, 91. I was given a HI of 14.4. That jumped to 19.5 after a couple of rounds and has dropped steadily to 11.4.
