England in India 2021
Discussion
The Indian team went to Australia and did really well, and that was a a great result as not an easy place to do well as we all know, England went to Sri Lanka and did really well but going and playing in India is an entirely different thing ; that's a huge task as we know from experience.
Looking good so far, the Sri Lanka mini tour was just what we needed.
As for Root, there was a time a while back where all the talk was at what position he should play and whether the captaincy is effecting his batting, obviously that is no longer an issue. He might go out of form though, we need to be tolerant of the lows ...
He's got above Alec Stewart on test runs I see .... Next one another legend ... Mr GG and his tash.....

Impressive stuff. Overnight declaration?
I am amazed reading this thread that people thought a declaration would have been in order today. Not a chance. Three days left to play....every over is an extra over in the Indian bowlers legs and IF we can bat an hour or more in the morning hugely frustrating for the Indians. Think about the Indian bowlers...they've got to get up in the morning aching like fk warm up and bowl again....the difference between that and doing some light stretching and then potentially sitting in an arm chair all day is massive. Not forgetting the more worn that pitch is the better for our bowlers.

Maybe, but I think a burst from Archer and Anderson tonight might have been the more attacking option. It tells India we aren’t worried about what happened before (which lets face it was freakish). Plus opening batsman don’t like fielding all day and then having 10 overs to face, they are often tired, don’t move their feet and they have to start tonight and again tomorrow. Not forgetting the more worn that pitch is the better for our bowlers.

I know I am always quick to want to move the game forward and India demands more patience, but! I stand by we very word, attack attack attack. Archer could have been lethal after a hard day in the field.

It's all if's n buts but if we have them 8 or 9 down come Tuesday & we run out of time well ..
I just feel that the Indian openers having spent two days in the field would be a lot more weary coming out for 30 minutes rather than batting after a good nights kip.
Was a great toss to win & the pitch already looks a little unpredictable , i just hope we don't waste this golden opportunity to take control.

Test cricket is not about “attack attack attack” it’s a game of attrition., especially on the sub continent ....”bowling dry” and building pressure you often hear the likes of Anderson and Broad talk about. Look at the pace bowlers today...they took wickets when the ball reversed.
