I haven't watched any today, but disappointed for Sundar not to make a century.

England are done. Their selection choice has been poor and all of the old frailties of not being able to play spin and make stupid batting decisions has been shown once again.

They came out all guns blazing & now Foakes & Lawrence are batting like we should have been when we started the innings.

So poor from England after the first test promise.

And Foakes is out as well. Then Bess goes for a hoik and gets caught. Stupid batting. Tbh if Bess never plays a test again it'll be too soon.

I just cant get excited with this 2-3 day cricket match, yes great bowling and batting from India but it not a contested match as so much advantage to India. England need spin bowling batting pitches to we can learn to play on them.

If Dan Lawrence doesn’t get picked in the summer it will be a travesty. He’s shown more application and ability than anyone except Root this winter....a couple of poor innings but he’s got to be worth a look this summer.

Test matches need to last into 5 days, anything less isn't really a test match. Seems a rare thing though these days. 2/3 days cricket is just a match, and no one wants to see it really, unless your team is the one that wins I suspect.

We will never do that as we put all of our eggs in a pace basket. Given that Archer hasn't come on as much as we had hoped yet, Wood isn't a long term fixture and is always prone to an injury, we have few answers to the Jimmy and Broad question. Stokes isn't an answer.

We have put too much emphasis into the white ball game, which I enjoy, but the test team has suffered.

England cricket should be concerned.

nono The tower!

If an England team got knighthoods for winning a ball-and-stick game, surely they should get a matching penalty for losing so badly.

Bit harsh.
We were always going to come a distant second in India against their spinners on turning pitches.
No surprises.

I did at least enjoy how skilful India were in the field, using Axar and Ashwin seems unfair somehow, they completely overmatched the English batsmen.

It must be the best job ever being a successful Indian cricketer, the sheer level of adulation you must get from like a billion people.

Yes and no. Sensible batting would have made a difference. I have absolutely no issue batsmen getting out to good balls. Some are just unplayable and that good that getting out is the only option. A rush of blood to head and going for hoiks etc, not using your head is stupid. I don't mind losing when we play well, getting beaten by the better team is good for the game and breeds competition and drive to get better. What we have witnessed over the last 3 matches is none of this.

Even if you have a poor series like Kohli, he will still be absolutely adored and be godlike.

Entirely predictable - England can't play spin, and don't seem to want to do anything about it. Wait until the summer and the wickets are green tops......

I'm not sure winning at home, then getting slaughtered away is doing them any good.......and they're not the only country who are like this. It's not a great advert for 5 day Test match cricket.

Some things I still dont get.

Bess was clearly getting the yips, so why drop him in favour of Ali, then bring him back under immense pressure. Why not back him from the start, he is the future if you want him to be. Moeen is better right now yes but is seemingly either a batter or a bowler, he CAN'T do both it seems without one suffering. So you pick him, and drop Dom, talk about messing with the lads head.

He should have been given the ball as Leach was and given time, he will get there. Jack is no worldly but did OK,

As for the batting, it's clear both sides struggled after the first game, India were hardly great, they had more standouts yes but Kohli got chuff all and we had Gill for toast.

Bairstow not a Test player anymore, and dropping Sibbers and Crawley into this was always going to hard, even Root suffered after one game, only Lawrence stood out as did Foakes for his defence. But neither may get picked again for a while, mainly coz of the obsession with good score every 6 games Buttler.

Buttler has a test average of 35, which is pretty handy. So I think thats an odd comment. Bairstow played Ok in Sri Lanka but yes I agree he has a technical flaw which keeps getting him out. Sibley is the answer to the question, which Batsman is likely to have the shortest innings.

I think Dan Lawrence could at least show the rest of the team how to bat against spin. He looked comfortable and quite assured despite the fact England were up st creek in both innings before he came to the crease.

I am a massive Jos Buttler fan but Foakes was pretty impressive, looks like good captain material to me. Poor old Dom Bess got dropped for the two spinning pitches, then brought back in when the pressure was on the bowlers was to salvage a result after yet another batting collapse. No wonder he didn’t play well, you’d need nerves of steel as a 23 year newbie in a senior team. He doesn’t really deserve all the criticism, few spin bowlers are up to much that side of 30.

I’m apparently in line to get tickets to see England v India at Lords this year so it’ll be interesting to see how the two teams fare back over here. Should be quite even, Lords isn’t exactly a fortress for England.
