looks like Lawes may be struggling to get fit for this
Lawes isn’t in the top 10 of second rows and not even top 20 for flankers. Can’t see why he’d be considered even if fit.Evanivitch said:

I admire Lawes ability to make a career out of ineffective (but not illegal) late tackles, but no way he'd be on the plane.

last year Cips would (should!) have been a shoo-in, this year? Not. A. Chance. The DC I can see going is CareJust like the (incredibly English-biased) BBC Rugby Union podcast seem to think Danny Cipriani has a chance
It’s quite hard to choose. Big clamour for the Welsh as they won the 6N but they beat Scotland and Ireland on the back of red cards ( justified but lucky for them) and beat England with the help of possibly the worst refereeing performance ever.
Scotland started and finished well, but were their normal below average team in the other games.
England played well v France but we’re terrible otherwise as were Ireland except v England.
For England , I’d say only Itoje, Watson, Curry and Sinckler are certs.

Sadly I think that Fazlet is also pretty much nailed on tooScotland started and finished well, but were their normal below average team in the other games.

Tough one to call with the way rugby has been since COVID. Did I hear that there will be one test venue in SA now and that will be Johannesburg? I think Gatland will go with what he knows, problem like for England is are the Saracens contingent up to it? At least they'll have the 6N under their belt and domestic games since the championship became less of a cake walk than exepcted.
Still a gamble. Jamie George for instance was one of if not the best hooker in world rugby. The Lions need to learn from the WC final and go for a pack that can at least gain parity in the set piece against the Boks. To that end I can see the case for a bigger non specialist blind side such as Beirne who I think is excellent regardless of if he plays 6 or Lock.
There's a lot of players going very well domestically that haven't been selected for their country that could be under consideration, and lets face it a lot of the Welsh 6N winners haven't and won'tget much of a chance to play domestically for those playingin Wales against top oppo. The squad I'd hope should be a good mix of all four nations

Given all the talk of Manu being essential and his fitness I guess Aki isn't that much of a surprise?
Really pleased for Simmonds.
Apparently Gatland has a big soft spot for Daly and that, plus his ability to play 11, 12(at a push), 13, 14 and 15 and the ability to kick from his own half clearly was enough for a place.
