Isn't all the criticism a little harsh considering we had a significant number of first choice players out OF ENTIRELY OUR OWN CHOICE?

When you have a top 3 like we have then you need the rest to be 100%

I'm not convinced about Root as Captain, but I'm even less convinced about the current senior management team.

I've formed the impression, maybe from the way he constructs his innings, that Buttler has a good cricket brain.
There are enough wicket keepers to have him solely as a batsman if all three roles are too much.
As a man manager? No idea1

I read a very good opinion piece in the Guardian by their chief sports writer Barney Ronay that seems to ascribe the issues with the English Test team down to managerial level misuse of players.

Jofra Archer is crocked due to injury, having been asked to bowl far too many overs, as many as 42 in one innings, which has also damaged his efficiency. Woakes has barely figured at all. Leach has transformed himself into a really rather good spin option and been rewarded for this by having his role removed from the squad. We are currently playing without four or five of our best players, and are fielding a third or fourth choice wicketkeeper. England aren't a good enough team to constantly chop and change players in the manner that we do, and it must be very damaging to team cohesion and morale. I don't mind that they tailor a team to particular conditions, or experiment using one or two fringe players but there have been so many wholesale team rotations that clearly haven't worked.

Anyone watching the test final, India v NZ?

On 6th (reserve) day, india batting (with NZ still to have their second innings) ,are 6 down and only 111 ahead, so could still be an interesting day

I'm keeping an eye on the game. India will feel a little let down by their batting, it's ordinarily where they really perform but it's all up to the bowlers now. smile

I'm glad they had a reserve day to allow for weather. I wish they could do that for more Tests, especially in this country.

44 for 2

No doubt these are the two best test teams

I see your point but tbf there are more results than draws in test matches in this country. This being a final a draw would be unacceptable

Only cricket would arrange two games to clash like that.

I recall some time back that the ECB had forgotten to have any matches on the last bank holiday in May.

You can watch live on iplayer, with a live rewind or delay of up to two hours on the live stream. If you want to watch something more than two hours old you have to wait until after the entire programme has finished for it to become available.

India are usually quite poor away from home notwithstanding the recent tour of Australia. New Zealand overall are a far better if less spectacular team. Kyle Jamieson was absolutely immense.
