I'm watching it - she's inconsistent with her shots - her unforced error count is pretty big and her first serve is poor with lots of double faults.

gets to the big stage and then falls short, seems to be a consistent pattern.

It is a shame.

To be fair - Gauff is playing like her number 7 ranking and I would guess ER is playing a fair bit above her 77 ranking. Gauff's service is working with lots of aces and she's making less unforced errors.

Looks like Gauff has had a shocking few games to open the door for the second set.

That is very fair, hopefully ER can take some inspiration from her opponent for use in future matches

Inconsistency again - got herself to two set points in the second set against an obvious bewildered confidence stricken Gauff and blew it with two silly unforced errors.

Doing really well against world number 7, shows she's right up there

Should be at least equal in this tie break, if not ahead. Just can’t seem to put points away when she is on top in them

Standard procedure: out in 2 rounds and ready to go back and enjoy the glitz and glam lifestyle.

On to the next slam!

Commentators are desperate for Raducanu to say she had an injury.

Hopefully she can kick on from here, if she can be injury free then there is a real player in there. Perhaps with all her injuries she is playing within herself and is also very very rusty.

Some good moments for ER, but the result not really a surprise… Gauff was always going to be a tough opponent.
This is her problem now though … her ranking now means she will be meeting a top 10 ranked player early in every tournament. As far as I can find, she has never beaten a top 10 ranked player.

I guess at the very worst she maintains her ranking points from last year. So not going to slide down the rankings much if at all.

A shame that she met Gauff who may well finally show her potential. It's always good to play better players, but agree that she needs to improve her ranking to meet these players deeper in a tournament.

It was the pick of the matches today.

I think on a re-watch she and her team will feel this was winnable - she had the chances but her unforced errors were her downfall - her serve wasn't great, just one ace and deep in the second set but there were so many in play chances where shot selection or just 'getting it in' would have won her the point.

Overall, a fair showing for a 77 vs 7 but she has it within her to do better with some more experience and coolness at key moments.

I've seen her play people who are clearly going through a bad patch in a match and are making mistakes all over the place. I think tries to kill them off by going for it rather than just getting the ball back to them and letting them fk up further.
It seems to be match craft that she needs to wise up on now (if she can stay uninjured for 5 minutes.)

(God this armchair is comfy).

biggrin It looked like she was giving Gauff too much time her back swing is relatively slow. It felt like Emma was giving Coco too much time to pick and choose her shot. A little more match practice and as you say staying injury free and she should speed up her shots or come in to the net a little more often. Certainly not a disaster against an opponent who is playing well at the moment.

It sounds like progress (I haven't watched it but going by what people are saying):

- she got close in the second set
- she completed the match
- she did not have any injuries

Next step is to win at this round.

Will she get an OBE for that? hehe

Potentially, that's quite an achievement biggrin
