Another retirement. Fairly sure in her very short career she has many more retirements that Federer in nearly 20 years on the tour.

Perhaps something not right with her team if she can’t stay fit for more than a couple of matches.

Even the (British) commentators were joking that the physios might be following her to each match...

It's difficult not to draw a comparison with Alcaraz. Same age, both very talented, both top 10.

But he has a top team around him for psy, physio, technical, tactical.

She has 2 geezers from the LTA.

Not looking good for Emma.Trying to "manage" a back problem isn't goint to be easy with Roland Garros coming up soon, and not too long afterwards, Wimbledon...

Damn.

I can help her with the mental stuff but physical isn't my expertise! (Not that she'd recruit someone like me, anyway.)

I was intending to bet against her but didn't know she was playing today. Someone needs to let me know every time she plays so I can bet on her opponent.

Raducanu is 3rd favourite to win Wimbledon which is an absolute joke.

Frustratingly she should really take sufficient time out to get it healed properly.

And maybe interview a few coaches at the same time.
Jamie Delgado has just ‘become available’ for instance …

Don't the odds reflect this?

Last time I bet against her was when she played Danka Kovinic and I got about 2.5-1 when Kovinic was up first set. People seem to love betting on Raducanu. The fact she's the bookies 3rd favourite for Wimbledon should say it all considering how she's failed to deliver on court since the US open over a year ago.

So the odds don't reflect things. Thanks. biggrin

I am no tennis fan, so obviously have no position of either expertise or knowledge to comment from, but I do wonder if her unprecedented success is forcing her to take part in tournaments she is neither physically or emotionally ready for. She seems to have a lot of retirals and I do wonder of she is emotionally strong enough to deal with all this sudden pressure and expectation, both from the public and her sponsors

I find the situation difficult to read but you might be right.

On the one hand she may need to have a proper break for complete physical conditioning but on the other the pressure is such that she can't afford to, particularly as not playing competitively for too long makes it all the more difficult to come back. It's a very complex game at that level.

For me, and I am probably getting boring repeating the same thing, she needs a top team around her. She massively missed the boat with Moratoglou.

Didn't she retire from Wimbledon before the US Open win due to anxiety?

She may not have the mental fortitude for the game.

Good point.
US Open winner lacks the necessary mental fortitude for the game. Doesn't sound nuts at all.

Or maybe a fortunate set of circumstances occurred which resulted in Raducanu meeting a player ranked 150 in the Final for a Slam?

She had not exactly proven herself before / after this anomaly.

I don’t think it was anxiety. She’s got some physical issues but she seems very intelligent and well adjusted whenever I see her interviewed or interacting with fans, etc.

You're right. My mum could have won that particular US Open.

Are you sure Fernández was 150th then? She has been in the top 20 for a while so that would surprise me.

It was a panic attack.

Some players stay on the court with their hands and feet bleeding, others retire for a blister on the hand or some other injury which suddenly crops up when the first set didn't go their way.
