Are you seeking to join either? Queenwood got more pros there I understand.

Thanks for the welcome & tips, especially the getting a coach (which I'd never considered) and the books, which should be a good starting point.

I managed to get out to the local driving range, got 100 balls and just practiced. Each bay has a computer which shows how far and high your ball went, along with other game options, which was useful.

With a driver I seemed to be hitting 185yrds - 200yrds fairly consistently, bit of work to do on the irons, some were good, but then a few dribblers that just rolled out the booth! Ended up going through 100 balls in 45mins, think next time I'll get 50 and take my time, but I didn't know what I was doing.

I find the new ranges are like playing in a weatherspoons now with the Tracer monitors so headphones are a must! I'm fortunate to have a decent range at my club along with flightscope mevo+.

Unless you are doing block practice on something new then somewhere around 50 or 70 is always best. If you've hit 100 balls on the course you should be walking off biggrin

Putting and shortgame in tricky situations (Bunkers a must) will always be a skill that you can shave 5-10 shots a round off if it's tough going off the tee (either down to you or weather).

I signed up on Skillest over the break - have had 4 interactions with the pro over the past 3wks.

It's $50 a month and for that I get unlimited access to the pro. What that means is I can record my swing and send it to him and he will respond with critique and analysis, and then provide drills etc. Basically the same as I would get if I went for a lesson, just a whole lot cheaper.

There are pro's from all over the world on the app, but without realizing, the one I selected is only 25mins away..! So once a quarter (or so) I will go and see him (but there's really no need).

So far I'm really enjoying the experience - It's really handy to get your practice analysed *after* any lesson, to make sure you are doing things correctly. And also in case you have any questions that need answering.

Trust me, for less than 4 quid, you can get yourself in a much better position to then start lessons in the future. You can practice a lot of this statically, in your home, grip/stance/posture.

Faldo is still a great model for anyone wanting to set up nicely to the ball, it's a beautifully presented book, one of my faves.

First proper round out this year - Played Pedham Place - course was playing well, but my god it was slow, was a good 5 hour round. Managed to get a goof 76, 4 Over in - Pleased with that for my first proper round of 2023

Nice score round there, especially in current conditions.

That's a weird layout but a good value course with a weird quirk - out of bounds in the air was a new one for me....(could hit from fairway to green but if crossing OB in flight they want it to be classed as OOB). Not surprised its slow being one of the cheaper public courses in the area - friends are members at Westerham, I'll only play there in the week as weekends you're looking at 5 hours minimum (we're generally at 3.5 at my course)
