For me test cricket is like being a heroin addict. All other forms are just a quick fix.

Bloody hell it hasn’t taken long for people to start moaning.

Day 1 the ball was moving around a lot which is why your saw both sides struggle with the bat. Even this morning it was a struggle for NZ but the afternoon was warm and made it hard for the bowlers.

In terms of the side I think we will see changes later in the year, but we don’t have a Chief Selector yet, and Baz and Stokes are just in the job so will go with trusted people at the moment. We have seen Potts come in and do well plus Parkinson has stepped in for Leach and will take his chance.

I don’t see them changing central contracts anytime soon.

If you listen to Rob Key he loves the 100 and thinks that plus the blast and 4 day games can all thrive and do well. He did say that there has been a change in the pitches this year, making them easier to bat on and games are going longer which will help us develop test batsman. It will take a while but will get better

Moving forward he does suggest they might try and do more with the domestic game to make it quality not quantity for the 4 day game, but will all depend how the counties take it and want to support.

If you have some time listen to this interview with Tuffers and Vaughan. Gives some good insights to what he is thinking as MD.

I understand what you say, but it's just far too slow for me. I get that it must be like watching a chess match, strategies and when to attack, spin or fade bowler, etc. But it's not for me. Well, not yet anyway. Perhaps ever.

I watched 30 minutes of the test this afternoon and it was sending me to sleep. Not holding my interest at all.
Test cricket is a great radio sport. On in the background while fishing / tinkering in the shed / driving somewhere.

I also tend to have cricinfo open in the browser at work so I can check the state of play every 15 mins or so.

With good friends present it's great to watch live too...as long as the weather's half decent.

A nice sit down out in the fresh air, catching up with mates over plenty of beer and reasonable food....catch up on the news etc. Basically a gentle all dayer that the OH doesn't mind you having. What's not to love?

Why is there 100 and T20?
.....
Because the ECB think they can replicate the money in IPL.

And like everything the ECB have done for a while, they (a) didn't bother to really understand why the IPL is what it is and (b) would fk it up anyway.

New Zealand are the best test side in the world? Really?
World Test Champions iirc, they’re only not top of rankings on games played.
Australia are the top ranked ICC test team at the moment: https://www.icc-cricket.com/rankings/mens/team-ran...
I suspect the last Ashes series helped that coefficient a bit
Played a lot of cricket in favourable Australian and Subcontinental conditions due to covid and scheduling. All ranking systems are flawed.

I don’t think anyone could dispute that New Zealand have a truly world class Test team at present though. How exactly they line up against Australia and India is open to question.

Speaking of New Zealand England really need to examine how they play. To come back from a really poor start to a game as they did shows impressive mental fortitude, they trusted their fielding to get them back in it then could rely on a decent batting stand to win the match (weather aside New Zealand have won this).

What's this?
Popped out for a bit garden DIM and Broad's got a hatrick!
Not quite. Middle one was a runout

Magic over from Broad. Not quite a hat trick with the middle one being a runout.

Technically, no. Run outs don't count for the bowler. Still a real turnround though.

And Anderson's got Blundell.

Nonetheless two very good knocks from him and Michell (not CdeG!). Coming in at 50 odd for 4 was it? Leaving at 250+.

Eight down now.

We'll lose, probably today, but it won't be by quite as many runs as it could have been provided we pick the last two wickets up cheaply.

Barring a Miracle New Zealand have this in the bag so anything they can score now is a bonus. Still game on, stranger things have happened /sportingcliche/

Yep, 276 lead is more than enough to see off England, sadly - i hope i'm proved wrong

Nice to see Matt Parkinson get his first England Test wicket, bet he wasn’t expecting that to happen earlier this weekend.

Blimey, some non believers in here. Think Root and Stokes will knock these off.

Easy game
