England cricket 2023 & 2024

Great series win, no matter what my concerns. You can only play what is in front of you.
NZ will be gutted I think. Had England on the ropes in all three and fluffed it. But England should be happy with the way they dug in and YJB's performances.
Shame there isn't more time to the next ones to get some proper coaching for the top order done.

Eoin Morgan is reported to be about to announce retirement from international cricket.
He’s made enough hints of late so won’t be a surprise especially looking at his recent form. Great player and probably an even greater captain. Arguably the best England captain for some while. Murph7355 said:
The NE wasn't doing too bad on lubrication (Though the price of drinks and food at events now is nuts. £7.30 for a pint in a paper cup (same at London Stadium the night before). £12 for a large g&t.
The stewards started off trying to stop the frivolity but realised in the afternoon that it was pointless. One bloke in our stand tried to start one, but the curmudgeons (self included) weren't up for being covered in beer by his feeble efforts.
What was you drinking? £6.10 for a pint of Guinness, and £5.80 for both bitter/lager in behind the Western Terrace on Days 1 and 2. To give Headingley it's due, the queues for food and drinks were impressively quick. It wasn't unheard of to miss an hour or more of play not that long ago - I know someone who missed 20 hours of the ODI vs Sri Lanka in the World Cup -and generally we were out and back within an over. A bit annoying to see the stadium half full (and best!) today having spent three hours yesterday in the online queue only to be told all the tickets were sold out by the time I got to the front of the queue!
Great series. The free ticket giveaway worked: having been one of the lucky recipients at Trent Bridge, my son and I have now caught the bug, so I’ve bought us both tickets for a day of the series decider ENG v IND Test at Edgbaston. I expect that match will be tougher still for Stokes & Co, but at least they will arrive with renewed confidence.
We'll come unstuck against India trying the same tactics, Bumrah and Shami are too good and their backups are better than NZs.
Good series win and some very enjoyable cricket, small shame we were at TB to see NZ pile on the runs, probably would have picked any other day. 3-0 is harsh on NZ though, scoring 550+ in the first innings and still losing the match is a proper ouch moment.

Back of the North East stand. Pretty sure it was £7.30 for lager/cider... But could be wrong.
G&T doubles were definitely £12.
Mate's son got some Indian chicken... £9.50.
Speed was OK as you note. I wonder how much of that was less queues due to pricing!
Was also at the World Cup ODI and agree it was a *lot* slower.

A combination of ordinary NZ performance with an improved England one. As others have observed there were missed chances that allowed England's fightbacks. Poor openers are one "traditional" England feature which the B&B show have yet to change.Good series win and some very enjoyable cricket, small shame we were at TB to see NZ pile on the runs, probably would have picked any other day. 3-0 is harsh on NZ though, scoring 550+ in the first innings and still losing the match is a proper ouch moment.
Great to see some new faces stepping up as well as Root enjoying playing again. And how much has Leach improved?
Now India. On Friday. Not long to prepare.
As th suggests a harder nut to crack but it's only one match rather than a series so that must favour the home side

Mike Brearley has to be there as one of the better recent captains as well.
Indeed, I'd put Brearley above Gatting. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2246364-where-...
Sibley is averaging 48 in the County Game.
So what's the challenge - is it the pressure of tests, the better bowlers. Is it a flawed technique only exposed at test level, head games ...
So many factors. However the stats at least don't lie, best opener in the county game.
Personally I would stick with Crawley for the India series. See if the mood around the England camp can inspire a bit of confidence.

I think I agree with this. Crawley has a lot of talent. Just needs to soak up the positivity and work hard on flaws in his technique. So what's the challenge - is it the pressure of tests, the better bowlers. Is it a flawed technique only exposed at test level, head games ...

Must admit I'm still gobsmacked at the impact of Stokes in particular. I hope his body holds up and he can continue for a few years.

Sibley was subjected to pelters because he was a relative debutant in a struggling side that had forgotten how to win. He was criticised for slow scoring and conservative shot selection, and like every other opener that has come and gone in the last 10 years or so was scapegoated for not being Alistair Cook or Andrew Strauss. So what's the challenge - is it the pressure of tests, the better bowlers. I reckon batting at Nos 1-3 is the absolute hardest job in cricket, if you get out early you are considered to be at fault for any subsequent collapse, having fired up the bowling attack/exposed the middle order to the new ball. Additionally you are expect to score against fresh bowling and the fastest ball with the most seam movement. You are not expected to play expansive cricket but only go for the bad balls. In short you need to suppress your natural instincts and play a patient watchful innings.
