Looks like AJ is parting company with Rob McCracken for the Usyk rematch and pairing up with Robert Garcia.
Had to do something. Just read that he's talking also about a second fight in December. I wonder if he's hoping for that to be Fury? I can't see that Usyk is not just going to come back with twice the ideas. Anyway they seem to be dragging the finer details of that one out for now. Lee Jones Jnr said:

I’d be interested to know the economics of this.I’d guess that BBC foot the costs of filming and broadcasting and the promoter gets his show on TV.
I’d be amazed if any money is changing hands, small hall boxing doesn’t really generate any money and I wouldn’t anticipate viewing figures that would justify BBC paying a fee.
The Welsh area belts are quite funky looking.

Reading Joyce v Parker off, but Frank is trying to tempt Wilder into fighting him! Joyce v Wilder has classic written all over it!!
I'm trying to see Joyce being more than a big, durable plodder. Sure, he exposed a raw Dubois but he looks too easy to hit for a puncher like Wilder, who has proved he can flatten anyone. I don't think he'd see which way Usyk went but I can see him giving AJ trouble.Pugaris said:
Kambosos Vs Haney tonight/tomorrow, who have you got?
Dodgy judging notwithstanding, I'm anticipating a Haney masterclass.
Hard to look past the dodgy decision though.Dodgy judging notwithstanding, I'm anticipating a Haney masterclass.
Haney must have been supremely confident to take this fight - he agreed to pretty much all of Lou DiBella's demands in terms of the location, purse, tv deal, and rematch clause (which I believe is also due to take place in Australia if the result goes against Kambosos).
In terms of the likely result, I don't think Haney will have the punch power to get a knockout, so I think it will go to a decision. No question Haney is the far better talent, and he is due a 'coming of age' fight where he exerts his talent to produce a masterclass, as you suggest. But Kambosos is going to be busy all night, and Lou DiBella knows all the tricks - and he is much more interested in protecting his golden goose than a bigger promoter who will also usually be interested in the spectacle, and is able to spend money covering the other side.
We have seen Haney can be caught, and that could be pivotal. So I think a contentious points decision in favour of Kambosos is the most likely result.

Well.... I've not watched the full fight back yet, but it does seem this was closer to what happened than my prediction!
Yeah I didn't give Kambosos a round, but there were a couple you could give him. Not sure how 2 judges managed to find 4 rounds but testament to how good Haney was, even judges primed to give anything they could to George still scored it 116-112 for Haney.Like you said, Haney was due a breakout performance and this was it. I had a good feeling from the build up to the fight. Haney took a stty deal to get it done and seemed supremely confident and relaxed in the press conferences. Kambosos's corny attempts to get in his head looked desperate.
George has quick hands, good punch selection and a good chin but not a lot else and that's never going to be enough against someone with Haney's style. He doesn't have the footwork to cut the ring off or the length to establish his jab so he's really reliant on his opponent spending lots of time at middle distance and/or standing and trading with him - that's exactly what Lopez did because he and his Dad are idiots and the total opposite of the style Haney fights with.
Hopefully Kambosos fks off the rematch because it'll just be the same thing again. I'd love to see Haney Vs Tank but that will require the latter leaving Mayweather which isn't happening by the looks of it. TopRank have great fights at 135 and 140 for Haney, though and he has 2 fights left with them as part of this deal. Lomachenko and Shakur at 135 are incredible fights and if he wants to go to 140 (he's a very big LW) he can fight Taylor and/or Lopez there.
So it seems like we are getting news regarding a deal between Joshua and DAZN...seems like he has now decided to switch to DAZN to launch their PPV service in the UK according to reports in the papers.
I wonder if this has been the reason for the delay in announcing Joshua vs Usyk.

I also notice there have been no announcements from Joshua regarding his UK TV deal - Sky (via Adam Smith) are saying they feel very confident Joshua will re-sign with them again. However, I think it looks clear Joshua will instead sign his UK broadcast rights to DAZN, maybe on a 1 fight deal.
I think DAZN want to use Canelo and Joshua as the star names to launch their worldwide PPV offering. Hearn will know to the last penny what Sky have been paying Joshua, so should be pretty easy to overpay to ensure they get his signature.
That will be a fundamental shift in strategy for DAZN - as Boxnation found, there are not enough hard-core boxing fans to support a subscription-based boxing channel which brings in sufficient monthly revenue to pay the rights fees and make a profit. Hence the switch to a PPV model in both the US and UK.

Dubois won the WBA title. His opponent looks like he stepped out of a pub and in terrible shape. No idea who he was fighting to have an undefeated record.
Can't really say Dubois looked very good in there and he's calling out Dillian Whyte.
Was a strange event....Don King winning the purse bid and putting on an event in what looked like a half-empty, slightly tacky casino. Seems like he decided to put the bout on in the early evening, probably to ensure he got a decent payment from BT sport, but it didn't help the atmosphere. But still, was a solid win helping Dubois' ranking with the WBA.Can't really say Dubois looked very good in there and he's calling out Dillian Whyte.
In other news, seems like we can now see why the fight between Joseph Parker and Joe Joyce didn't go ahead. Seems like Sky decided, once they realised there was a good chance they would lose AJ, they would try and sign Parker as part of backup plan to rebuild some kind of stable.
I think we can expect Sky to be very aggressive for the rest of this year, probably overpaying some fighters, as they are desperately short of PPV worthy talent. I can imagine Whyte might be an example of a fighter who could benefit from this.

Joyce is the hardest done to fighter in the world. Time is desperately slipping away from him and I think he's easily top 3 if he ever get s the chance to fecking fight!
36 and hasn't even got a sniff of having a fight against any of the big boys. Given how inactive they are and with rematch clauses he'll be lucky to ever get a shot. The best he can really hope for is a big money fight against someone.Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
