Absolute belter of a fight in Texas tonight. Bam Rodriguez Vs Rungvisai. Some balls on Bam, stepped up two weight classes on 5 days notice to beat Cuadras and now making his first defence against one of the best 115lbers in decades.
Just seen this result on Reddit. Know nothing of the guy, but people are raving about him.I struggle to keep up with all the talent in the US at the lower weights. It's not helped by how much they seem to move between different weights.

I have less interest in little boxers anyway but at the bottom end there is 3lbs difference between weights. I can vary by double that during the course of an ordinary day.paua said:

Thanks for this. Good read, loved watching Tua, his fight with Ibeabuchi is a must watch for any fight fan. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/combat-sports/300606...

Recommend just keeping up with 115. It's the best division in boxing. Rungvisai, Chocolatito, Cuadras and Estrada as the 4 kings was great enough but now you've got Bam beating 2 of them, Martinez stepping up from 112 and likely Nakatani soon as well. Bam is the real fking deal. Future P4P king potentially. Think him, Shakur and Boots Ennis are the future of boxing.

Ring magazine rates Rodriguez as number 6 at 115 pounds
He can expect a healthy upgrade on that very soon.
He'd only fought there once before last night. He was competing at 108lbs and took the Cuadras fight on 5 days notice. Absolutely incredible how he's seized his opportunity. He can expect a healthy upgrade on that very soon.
Hopefully we get Chocolatito Vs Estrada next and then the winner of that fights the winner of Bam Vs one of the other 2 champs (Fernando Martinez and Ioka).
Such an absolutely lit division.

Only 3lbs between him and a fight with The Monster. I'd definitely pay to see that one.
Let's not get too excited! Bam only just stepped up from 108lbs, Inoue's set for 122lbs after he fights Butler. Unlikely they meet any time soon, if ever. Bam more likely to step down than up.It's alright, though - at 112 and 115 you have a huge amount of great fighters who can all fight one another. Estrada, Gonzalez, Nakatani, Julio Martinez, Sunny Edwards, Dalakian, Ioka, Fernando Martinez, Franco, Bam and Rungvisai - just absolutely incredible.
I'd love to see a tournament between the 4 champs at each weight class, make the undisputed in each and then have them fight one another. It won't happen I know, but would love to see it.

Beterbiev is a MUCH bigger name on. He's literally the monster of boxing and I would be surprised if his next fight is not PPV.
If he fights Yarde in London then it probably will be a BT Sport PPV event. Beterbiev has firmly put his name down as a big star of boxing.
Explosive KO's? Guaranteed action? Violence in both fists? Yes please.
I love Beterbiev but 2 fights ago I paid £100 for great seats to watch him fight at a stadium in Montreal at 20% capacity. He isn't a draw to casual boxing fans. Buatsi, a British Olympian, Vs Yarde has more casual appeal. If he fights Yarde in London then it probably will be a BT Sport PPV event. Beterbiev has firmly put his name down as a big star of boxing.

Beterbiev's profile is much bigger now. He was trending all last week on boxing forums due to his savage KO over Joe Smith Jr. It also helps that he's seen as a natural opponent to Bivol ; who himself is a massive name now after his beating of Canelo.
Sometimes you just need a dance partner to make a name for yourself.

Wasn't that the night when Montreal was *about* to re-enforce COVID restrictions? I remember the Top Rank commentary team talking about how the event was about to be called off at the last minute due to new COVID restrictions that were about to come into effect.

Yes, it was. Capacity wasn't impacted by Covid, though.Beterbiev's profile is much bigger now. Buatsi vs Yarde will do bigger numbers in the UK than Beterbiev vs Yarde imo. Buatsi has a good profile as an Olympian and headlining Matchroom cards - I can't see Beterbiev shifting huge numbers of tickets in the UK.
Bivol vs Beterbiev for undisputed in Vegas would be a bigger event, though.
