Quick thread throwback as I was just pondering this.

How does he cope with the legal requirements around being in education? Is there some sort of dispensation for this type of scenario?

It would obviously be absurd to tell Littler and his parents that he has to give up the job earning him £££££ a year to concentrate on getting the qualifications to earn ££ a year, but presumably there also has to be some way of preventing abuse of the system?
I didn't realise that technically you can't just leave school at 16 and get a job .What a stupid system.
However having just read up on it,in his situation there isn't really any enforcement if he doesn't do any further education course. He may of course be doing something,we just haven't been told

If you are working it's only part time education required.

Part-time education or training alongside full-time work must be of at least 280 guided learning hours (GLH) per year. This means the equivalent of about one day a week spent being taught by a lecturer, supervisor or tutor. These hours can be taken flexibly around working hours, as distance learning, or in blocks.

Littler went out in round 2 today 6-5 to Radek Szaganski.

Gary Anderson beat Ryan Searle in the final. Anderson apparently missed the double 12 on 3 occasions for 9 darters.

Does anyone subscribe to PDC TV?
I do subscribe so I get WC tickets nice and early, but very rarely watch any of the matches on it.

Obviously a darts thread isn't the place for a big detour, but as you've just discovered, it's only part time, so I think it's actually a sensible idea. For every Luke Littler who doesn't need it, there must be 1,000 kids whose careers and lives in general will benefit from not completely dropping all formal education after their GCSEs.

I'm not impressed by these Scottish 'fans' booing both players....who just happen to be English.

I went ahead and subscribed to PDC TV.

Watched the first 4 Players Championship events, although it would be nice if they started an hour earlier as the final doesn't start till about 6pm when I head out to work.

Made use of the subscription to get tickets for the World Matchplay up here in Blackpool. Had a prior appointment so couldn't get online till a few hours after the pre-sale started, but got tickets for the Monday night session.

Littler just hit a 9 darter on the way to winning the Belgian Open. Also broke the record for most 180s in a tournament. With 30!

Lads a machine!

What was the lad he beat in the semi going on about when they shook hands at the end of the match?

He didn't seem to be happy about something.

I'd set my PC up to record the evening session as I was at work but I think I need to adjust some settings as it ran out of disk space after 20mins recording and using 130gb of space, so had to watch the 45mins highlights on the PDC Youtube channel, that mentioned the 9 darter in the final in its the video title grumpy

Sour grapes, said Littler is arrogant. To be fair I've noticed he's gone a bit that way but isn't he entitled to be given how good he is ?

So top of Premier League, 2nd European Tour title, over £300k in prize money in the first 4 months of the season. Was beginning to act a little strange in the Liverpool Premier League (as a Man U fan), but given the stick he was getting you hope that was just a one-off and a learning experience. He seems so rocksteady and metronomic on the ocky, there was one 180 yesterday that was basically all on a pinhead not watched a lot of darts historically but don't think I've seen that leave of repeated accuracy before.

EDIT: The 180 I refer to is the first throw in the final leg at 45:08, here

It's certainly starting to look rather ominous for the other guys on the tour, as there's no obvious reason why he can't maintain this level for years and years to come.

Pietreczko claimed he wasn't happy about the "unorthodox" finish Littler threw, rolleyes, can't remember what it was now.

Pietreczko has form for this when he loses, it's happened numerous times before and after.
It's just sour grapes and the fact that he allowed Littler to get under his skin.

Anyway those "pub darts" continue to work like a charm for Luke.

To change the subject, where has Martin Schindler's form come from?
He seems to have improved massively!

I’m loving the pub darts. For all those who said he was t ready…what now? That 180 he threw was perfect, he’s shaken darts up and it’s revitalised the sport imo. I don’t even mind baby Price and his housery these days….

I am concerned that my usual ticket buying for the worlds isn't going to be as simple as usual this year

I'm a big Littler fan but for me the big change in his game has been his consistancy. If you look at the first few nights of the Premier League there were multiple times where he was flying with an average of around 105 in the QF then frop to about 96 in the SF. I get that it's hard to maintain those kind of initial averages but he seems to now be able to deal better with a break and then another match.

Also wise to remember that he has been beaten and often. Great he's won some of the titles he has and great he's in contention for the PL but also we should remember the weight of expectation being put on his sholders. I am sure at some point he will win some massive tournaments but I really don't expect him to be rivalling Taylors records. The landscape is different now.

Indeed.

They said MVG would break all Taylor's records, and he's still only won 3 WDC's, as Cross, Price, Wright, Smith, Humphries have all won since MVG's last win, so I'm sure there will be another wonder-kid along within another 5+ years that will do same again.....its the way the sport has changed since Taylor dominated.

Going forward, anyone that wins 3 or more WDC's will be seen to have been doing pretty well.

Taylor was a professional in that he treated it as a job and practiced constantly. His accuracy was insane
Littler is just having the time of his life

Not having watched darts since the days of Wilson, Bristow, Lowe and Deller the noise around Littler drew me back. The game is unrecognisable from what I remember and all the better for it - the quality of play is astounding even outside of the top 8.

It's now required viewing for me and that's largely down to Luke Littler - just hope he keeps his head with all the attention and weight of expectation.
