so my hands have a habit of trying to stay too active on the way through, meaning I tend to "flick" at it, opening the club up and losing it right slightly - or I try to "save it" and end up pulling it way left.
This is exactly it. So frustrating! But when you nail one..... ooooh baby!!

Looking good.

I'm not sure your numbers add up unless I'm missing something, if you're 91 club speed with an 8 iron I'd expect you to be 115ish with the driver unless your shafts are really long in the irons?
My irons are 1/2" long.

My driver is a Mizuno, which has a shorter 45" shaft. Most drivers are 45 1/2" as standard, some even 45 3/4".

Would that make the difference? If I really try and crank it up I get around 109-110 with the driver.

1/2 inch longer irons is quite a bit ( a whole club in standard length progression) - are you tall / short arms? You may need a slightly longer driver shaft or at least a more upright driver setting otherwise your driver is going to be quite open at address.

Suspect you're leaving a few mph on the table with your driver.
I'm 6'2"

That's interesting, I'll have a tinker with my driver tomorrow night at the range and set it slightly more upright - I do tend to lose driver slightly right.

thats still some speed with an 8 iron, I'm at around 92mph on TrackMan with a 7iron which are 1/2" longer and around 112mph with the driver, so I would expect you to be edging towards 113ish with the same swing.
What length is your driver? I also use a pretty heavy shaft in it - Tensei White 70-X.

2 weeks ago, holed everything.

Last Sunday, 6 three-putts. Couldn't get the pace whatsoever. I think the greens were quicker last Sunday, plus the wind was blowing. Didn't need much and you were 6 feet past the hole!

I see the PGA stars are out in force now, defending the PGA non-cut events.

Rory, Homa, etc.

They're all a bunch of hypocrites to be honest.

I've never felt more disconnected from the professional game as I do now, it really doesn't appeal to me anymore.

Amateur golf and amateur golf events are so much more relatable, The PGA, LIV and DP Tours can quite frankly get stuffed.

I'll watch some of the Open and Masters but that'll probably be my golf viewing for the year.

First individual comp of the year yesterday for me. Shot 79, 34 points. Blobbed 2 of the par 3's, nonchalantly missed a 2' putt for a 4 on one of them.

Came 5th, would have won it with 37 points. Very annoying!

Tough conditions, quite windy and the greens were lightning fast! All in all pretty happy, especially with a birdie 3 on SI 1 which is a 468 yard par 4.

HI had a little cut down to 8.9, goal for the year is to get to 7.3.

This is a tricky one.

We have a young member (about 22?), who is the son of one of our lowest handicap members (who has been a member for some 30+ years).

His wife died during childbirth of said young member, who was born premature. The young lad suffers with dyspraxia. His handicap is around 53.

He won last years eclectic competition (let's face it, not hard with a handicap of 53!). The look on his face when he went up to collect the trophy, and the cheer that he got at the prize giving dinner, was heart-warming and great to see.

Golf should be more inclusive, if that means giving people a high handicap to make them semi competitive then so be it.

If the old limit of 28 was still in play, he would never win a thing and probably get fed up with the game pretty quickly.

What his Dad has done is make sure that he plays quickly, walks at a decent pace, picks up when he knows he can't score, has his bag in the right place at the end of each hole and marks his scorecard on the next tee.

Another lesson yesterday, still trying to work on driver and not being so steep, as you can see from the numbers, there's another 20 yards carry to be had if I can lessen the AOA a little.

Changed the shaft in the G430 and lowered to 8 degrees to try and bring the spin down, I've gone from 2700 to around 2100

4iron

7 iron

Super numbers! What are you playing off now?

I can spend hours in the garage on the sim with everything coming together and then you turn up on a Sunday morning and wonder where it's all gone.
It's golf - it's 99% in your head!!

I can get to say the 12th hole, add up my score and give myself a target to reach by the end of the round. Amazingly, I nearly always get to that target.

It's all about having a positive mindset and not thinking too many swing thoughts when you're playing.

I'm pretty good at chipping and putting, so quite often I'll get up and down which helps!

I agree with it mainly being in your head although I'm the opposite, show me my scorecard on the 12th when I'm having a decent round and I'll find a way to put at least 1 snowman on the card.
Haha, yeah if I'm playing well and think I've got a score on I won't look!

Bagged a spot in this year's Cookie Jar Golf Spring Meeting, looking forward to that. Alwoodley and Moortown in May.

Yep, it's going to come thick and fast this year. Confirmed so far:

Moortown
Alwoodley
Little Aston
Littlestone
Ashdown Forest
Sunningdale
St George's
Piltdown
Knole Park
Brancaster
Hunstanton

Hopefully pick off a couple more along the way, possibly Prince's at some point too.

Roll on summer!

Was thoroughly surprised this morning that despite all the rain our place was open, so went to play in the morning swindle. Considering I didn't hole a putt all day - that isn't hyperbole either, had 4 birdie putts of less than 10 feet, burned the edge 4 times - quite happy with the result.

As it was Stableford the guy marking my card didn't bother with adding up Gross scores, but was 37 out, 41 back for a 78.
Good work! I surprised myself yesterday winning my first comp of the year! With…. 27 points! Wind was extreme - I hit driver and 9 iron into the opening par 5, then driver, 5 wood, 9 iron into a par 4 in the other direction!

I noticed that the WHS had given a PCC adjustment of +3, don’t see that very often. But it was 40mph winds!

So after 2 comps I’m leading the OoM and Eclectic - I think the weekly early season range sessions are paying off.

Played with the society at a bit of a Mickey Mouse course (the Oaks in Carshalton) which was playing short and shot 36 points with 2 OOB balls...

Placed lower-mid pack....

Day was won by a new guy playing off 22....who was 1 under gross through the first 10 holes. Although he fell away from there he still finished +7...or 51 points...

Last day of paternity leave tomorrow so have arranged a scratch match with an ex captain for the knock out back at my club. Although we're about the same handicap it should be a good game...assuming I get through the next game is against a guy playing of +2...a fools errand I fear
22!! What a joke, he should be embarrassed with himself.

I've always liked the golf pride new decade multi-compounds. I got measured for 2/3 wraps but got midsize to keep everything quieter.

Separate news had my scratch knockout match today and was done in under 2 hours...

Somehow managed to play well, was +1 through 10, 8 up and as the 10th is near the clubhouse and we'd just caught a 4-ball the game was conceded. Only issue is my next game is new against a guy off +2....if I play like I did today I may just have a chance...
Great work! I had a match against a +3 last year, and managed to win on the last. He had to give me 11 shots and as soon as he made a few mistakes you could see his head go. You’ve got a great chance if you’re playing well.

If your handicaps are accurate then you shouldn't fear anyone, regardless of what they play off. It's what handicaps are for!
Sorry - this is a scratch knockout - everybody playing off 0
Oh..... best of luck then biglaugh

Cheers for the feedback folks - interesting to see the number of people playing Midsize! I found the below guide whilst having a mooch:

https://golfgrips-direct.com/guides/grip-size-guid...

Using the measurements there it recommends Standard grips with 3 layers of tape, which makes sense given I find my current ones slightly too thin and they only have 2 layers on them.
That gives me standard +4 layers of tape.... just! Which I used to have before I went for midsize.
