Completely by chance I came across this GC quad range in Norwich, which a couple of years ago was the first one in the country

There may not be any others in the UK at the moment, but it does suggest that if you use the usual stickers it should be full featured and give you exact club data, while being able to see the full ball flight.

Our Pro has GC Quad and I have to say in my opinion seems much better than Trackman. That range looks fantastic - and I notice they do an offer of an hour bay hire and 50 balls for £10 - that's great value. Wish I had something as good as that close to me!

Played in an event with work at Hankley common yesterday - great course despite the ongoing tree/bunker works. Sense it'd be an animal off the back tees! (We ended up off the relatively easy yellows!)

Played ok and rather consistently (admittedly with a few errors) to shoot handicap which I'll take around the rest of my team falling apart.

Highlight was winning the nearest the pin (but missing the putt) and missing out on the longest drive (didn't know about it on the tee!) by a yard, although winning both would be a little much...

Lovely, good shooting!

Thanks, lets hope the golf holds up at Royal St Georges next week...
Have you played there before?

Never, although did walk the course for the open a year or so ago!
OK, get a course guide, pick your lines and trust your swing! There are a few tee shots that will leave you scratching your head for where you should be aiming. Hopefully whoever you're playing with will know his way around?

Playing with a few work colleagues, one of which is a member/ex Euro-pro player so hopefully we'll get some help there!
Excellent, you'll love it. Enjoy lunch!

I thought his comments before the tournament on the Liv guys were correct though. They weren't 'match fit' for a 4 round major championship after playing 3 round 'tournaments' with no cut on courses of dubious quality.
That’s an interesting take on it and I have to disagree!

They showed that they’re more than competitive, if you ask me. 12 of the 16 that played all 4 rounds made the cut, with 3 in the top 4 (2 runners up!).

On the other hand, poster boys of the PGA, JT and Rory, who must have been ‘match fit’ because they play on superior courses over 4 rounds, missed the cut.

Interesting times ahead and if anything you have to say it was a boost for LIV as the OWGR can’t go on ignoring their tour if their players keep turning up in majors like this.

Never really understood the point of these clubs. Surely it's just like playing a 7-iron chip around the greens?
Whopping great sole on it, I'd imagine it's much harder to hit fat? Just like a mallet putter with 30+ degrees of loft!

Lad had a decent round today (compared to yesterday anyway!)
Shot 12 over - 6 over through the front and 6 out back.

He’s happier, but knows his putting let him down a few times - thinks he should’ve been no more than 7 over.
Live and learn, and take that into tomorrow for the last round.

No surprise that the current club junior champ (for the last 2 years) is in the lead.

One thing that annoyed me today - the French lad he was playing with was cheating.
I saw him take 8 shots on one hole and he told my lad he only took 6 - my lad said this happened all the way round (I only walked the front 9 as it was 35°c today).
Very difficult for my lad to do anything about it when they handed the cards in as there was just the two of them.
Had there been three players it would’ve been easier to pull him up on it.

Anyway, onwards to tomorrow….
Thats disgraceful. I guess he needs to learn the art of asking the question about scores.

Although no doubt at that age the cheating is down to parent pressure.
He needs to learn to agree the score at the end of each hole instead of wait until the end of the round. I know it's an awkward discussion, but as above, he needs to start questioning the scores and if he doesn't agree stick to his guns!

I'm too scared to film my swing laugh

As long as my path is good, face to path at impact is there or thereabouts, and I'm getting goodish numbers I leave well alone!

There are plenty of other factors that I can improve on which won't make me completely screw up my golf swing (chipping, putting, course management, etc).

again, another misconception that I believed/was told for years, is how important the short game is. It helps, but the main difference between handicaps is ball striking. A tour pro might average 12-13 greens on a tour level course, a decent amateur should be getting towards that on an average difficulty course. Id suggest if you arent averaging at least 9/10 greens a round you have room for improvement
Yes you're probably right. However, I still think holing more putts is probably a quicker and more realistic way of shooting lower scores?

as i understand it the difference between a good putter and a bad putter isnt much (leaving aside genuine yippers who cant hit the hole from a foot)

Nobody on earth makes much from outside 20 feet. You simply have to hit it closer
Yep, I think you're right!

In other news, after several decades playing this game I had a massive lightbulb moment yesterday. I was three quarters of the way round the course and my back was seizing up as usual. My 'backswing' has always stopped short of the vertical, resulting in a downswing that's almost all hands and arms. In the past I've managed to get down to a 13 handicap with that, but I'm now off 16.9 and going downhill. The more I struggle the harder it gets and I arrive home knackered.
Anyway, long story short, on the basis of it being impossible for things to get any worse I decided to throw caution to the wind yesterday and try the full swing that everybody else uses laugh and bugger me I started hitting the ball miles with the sort of ball flights I've always dreamt of but hardly ever achieved. Even the direction was vaguely OK, just a tad left, but that feels fixable and frankly I'll take any direction at the moment in exchange for the feeling of liberation and ease I was suddenly experiencing. It was so much less tiring too. For the first time I was actually swinging the club rather than trying to generate clubhead speed with my arms, which more often than not would give me a rubbish mis-hit.
I know this will sound crazy to the seasoned golfers on here and I may well come a cropper on my next round but again I don't care because I can see this is the way forward and there'll be no going back from here.
The missis was laughing her head off when I told her about it. 'Even I know you're supposed to swing a golf club!' she said.
Sounds promising! Start doing some daily golf related stretching to help.

Lovely morning yesterday.

I had to get up and down from the side of 18 yesterday for a 78. Ended up with an 80. And that was with 4 doubles on the card in total!

Still, came 4th out of 28 so still competitive and moving in the right direction, little nibble down to 8.8.

Medal next weekend.

Further progress made yesterday with the putting on way to a 75, 1 double, 1 bogey and 16 pars.

Whilst the number of putts was relatively high (32), I holed everything inside 6ft and lipped out for birdie 4 times. Compared to where I was, it's a massive improvement.

Final card for my handicap and I should be off 4 when the cards get processed. Luckily, we have a gross prize for all medal comps and quite a few scratch events so should have a decent chance at some prizes this year.

Halved my match with a scratch mate in the end, I got up and down on 14 & 15, won 16, halved 17 and he birdied 18 for the half. Did use the new '23 ProV1x and my new irons and wedges destroyed it - 15ft of backspin on a couple of greens was funny to see..
Nice! I putted well yesterday as well, although the putts I holed were scrambling for pars instead of birdies! Had 28 including a 3 putt on 18.

Got up and down out of 2 bunkers, and up and down from around the greens 3 times.

Very satisfying. My mate refused to give me a 4ft putt for the half on #17 which I duly sank. We laughed about it afterwards but to be honest, it's good practise for comps where you need to hole everything.

Just checked my ShotScope and I'm now in + territory for strokes gained v a scratch player for putting (last round) - sitting at a whopping +0.29.
Lost -2.3 shots from tee shot category yesterday and pulling 2 drives into the cabbage on par 5's..
I need to get some stats going!

The wife is convinced that I've started my midlife crisis from some of the golf clothes I've been buying recently - few hoodies, some very mustard trousers and a pair of Macade Joggers. So this morning I decided to prove her entirely right buy picking up some new golf shoes.

£70 down from £180, and from walking around the shop I can confirm they're like wearing slippers.

Also got the Device Cradle for my trolley - one things I've been missing from my Cube is the net underneath the handle where I can put my phone, ciggys etc, so this should go some way to replacing that.
Good grief! Truly awful! laugh
