Thanks, I did look at Granville GC but it is an hour and a half away which is a little too far since the OH would have to come with us as it is her company car we are using and I can't drive on my own abroad for some bizarre reason. We are planning a visit to Mont St Michel though.
MSM is a life bucket list trip. I recommend if the weathers good walking down and getting the bus back, it was only 1km and we did it feeling ropey with Covid (we hadn't realised we had caught while there lol)
I really like Normandy, Bayeux is a good town for a mosey around, see the tapestry and to get something to eat.
Mont St Michel is a must see but try and get there early as it gets mentally busy.
Bayeux and the tapestry is another good shout.
Granville has a really good market on Saturdays and is a lovely little town with some great seafood restaurants.
For me the American War Cemetery was one of the most moving but beautiful places I've ever visited, it puts the futility of war totally into perspective and should not be missed.

I've only ever driven through Normandy so cannot offer too much guidance on that, however I did play golf for 12 months in France when my dad was moved out to Clermont-Ferrand in the 90's, and have many happy memories of it. We played on a course on the shoulder of the Puy De Dome and the volcano from the Volvic logo - it was closed for most of winter, but jaw-dropping in summer.

Only thing I really noted as different about golf in France is that it isn't a hugely popular sport (with an image only the rich play it), which means that those who do play tend to be very keen and knowledgable so you are less likely to get some of the more "interesting" characters that we get over here or in the US.

What would be the result of using more upright/shorter irons? Six footer currently using standard black dot Ping 425s.
Going to a more upright club will typically promote more of a draw, and shorter means you'll generate slightly less swing speed so will lose a little distance. I'm 6 foot 1 and play 0.5 inch long but standard lie. According to my fitter I should really be playing them 1 Degree upright for a "proper" fit, however my natural shape is a draw so he recommended keeping them standard to counteract that.
Last time I played Pings I was using Black Dot as well, however as that was a set of Eye 2 BeCus in 1996 things may have changed slightly

I did all the research last year on courses, hotels and ferry prices for a 3/4 day trip and one by one they all bottled out and we ended up on a one night/two round trip to Dale Hill which is a 40 minute drive away, could have just done it on a couple of day trips!!

Unfortunately I couldn't comment on the golf in France as I haven't played there yet. I live in Seaford which is just ten minutes from Newhaven ferry port and keep talking about going over with my mates to play Dieppe and a few other courses around there but it just hasn't happened yet.

My mates will be going to France to play National Senior Open comps this year, I think that's the best way myself rather than a bunch of hen pecked blokes all getting ear bashed and never all being available at once!I did all the research last year on courses, hotels and ferry prices for a 3/4 day trip and one by one they all bottled out and we ended up on a one night/two round trip to Dale Hill which is a 40 minute drive away, could have just done it on a couple of day trips!!
Half day off this morning..
Course closed FFS.
This has been one exceptionally wet start to Spring....I did get bored this afternoon and ordered the new ShotScope X5 watch on an existing user deal (£179.99). I've been impressed with the V3 watch, hoping the X5 is a nice upgrade..

In the seemingly never ending hunt to find a training aid that is actually useful, has anyone tried the Tour Striker PlaneMate (https://www.tourstriker.com/en-gb/products/planemate-v2)
I just cannot seem to shallow out my downswing consistently, no matter what I try and this seems to have had a fair bit of decent coverage/reviews from those with a similar issue (amongst other things). I think it's bloody expensive for what it is, but then if it can actually get me to finally shallow out my downswing consistently I would be happy to pay up.

Insanely expensive for what it is imo.I just cannot seem to shallow out my downswing consistently, no matter what I try and this seems to have had a fair bit of decent coverage/reviews from those with a similar issue (amongst other things). I'd steer clear of the whole shallowing thing, watch slow motion of Tiger dtl, he keeps the club in front of him, in control. Amateurs trying to shallow, are likely to pivot stall and flip into impact.
Depending on your standard, I'd suggest buying a golf book and working through it, or lessons, or YT, but stick to the same system, as there are different ways to swing a club.
Books on ebay I'd recommend -
Faldo A Swing for Life
7 Laws of the golf swing
Both similar tbh, Faldo book has more detail, shot making etc.

A good video for getting the club in front of you on the way down.

Tiger dtl, not shallowing the club.

Played in a scratch knockout yesterday against a guy off 2.
Was never down in the match until the 17th, we halved the 18th so I lost one down. In fact we halved 13 holes, 8 of them on the back 9.
Conditions were tough with 30mph winds and terrible greens. I think I dragged him down to my level.

The weather this week has been dreadful. We where due to play a course on Sunday, but changed at the last minute as it would have been horrific. They hardly ever close it, but the fairways are so boggy, and tee boxes become laughable. Course closed FFS.

I'm not even sure if we're back on normal tees yet
Decided to see what I could do about launching my Driver too low. I knocked it up 0.75 of a degree, and I'll be honest I'm not sure it worked
Picked my irons up from being regripped, and also stocked up for the season. Picked up a dozen Left Dash Pro V1x, a dozen Tour Speed, 2 Titleist gloves and a packet of bamboo tees. I am now officially ready for the season. Just need the course to dry out now

My lad is getting very frustrated at the rain - he can walk from school to his club during free periods in his A levels.
Been everyday and the course has either been shut due to rain, or very saturated.
He’s doing a tournament at The London Golf club on Monday and hopefully the forecast will be decent.
Onto another tournament nearer home on Thursday then onto Abu Dhabi over Easter week for a 3 day junior tournament.
Needs some practice though - but the weather is curtailing that at the moment..
