Riiigght…that’s a weak lofted 8 iron by todays standards! 1 deg weaker than mine. What you’re saying makes a fair bit on sense now.
Get your hands leading even a touch with driver and take a bit of loft off and that’s definitely a recipe for low launch with the driver you’re using. If you happen to be hitting up while delivering less than the static loft of the driver and that’s not going to spin much (strike dependant), so it won’t climb that much either.
Definitely report back. I love chatting launch monitors and the numbers
Well done on getting to the bottom of this, looking forward to Bodhi's update after dog lesson.Get your hands leading even a touch with driver and take a bit of loft off and that’s definitely a recipe for low launch with the driver you’re using. My 8 iron is 39deg too, even yours is weak @38deg, I've seen clubs with 33deg 8!

My foursomes partner has just treated himself to a set of Ping G430s. His Pitching Wedge is 41 degrees, and he's had to buy two wedges below that. He now had 4 wedges and the weakest is 54 degrees. My 8 iron is 39deg too, even yours is weak @38deg, I've seen clubs with 33deg 8!
Ah the world of jacked up lofts....

My old Sim Max irons were Taylormade's version, the pitching wedge was 43', so I also ended up with a plethora of wedges, PW (43'), GW (49'), SW (54') & a 60' wedge I purchased seperately. To be honest I also have a 52' & 56' as preferred specific wedges (Milled Grind) to those which were in the set.
I've moved to the new P790 irons now, and gave my old clubs away to someone who was just starting. The lofts are near to 3' higher per club (so in essence nearly a club difference throughout), however I've seen no drop off in distance, probably through improvements made in other areas though, but they are so much of a nicer club than the others. Would have loved to purchase the P770 irons but that would have involved a loss of distance and simply can't afford it, and its a struggle to find 'split sets' in the UK seemingley. I just have 4 through to GW now, and keep the 60' in the bag as well.
The way new irons are designed is impressive, they can be quite small, with little offset, yet be packed with tech to help you.
I looked at some Wilson Staff D9 forged, gorgeous looking clubs. Same for JPX HM pros, P790s etc, all very attractive, but clever.
The lofts on the 790s look good, strong 7i @30deg, but acceptable PW @45.

They still want to know what iron you hit into a par 3 though Ah the world of jacked up lofts....
Played in an event with work at Hankley common yesterday - great course despite the ongoing tree/bunker works. Sense it'd be an animal off the back tees! (We ended up off the relatively easy yellows!)
Played ok and rather consistently (admittedly with a few errors) to shoot handicap which I'll take around the rest of my team falling apart.
Highlight was winning the nearest the pin (but missing the putt) and missing out on the longest drive (didn't know about it on the tee!) by a yard, although winning both would be a little much...

Hankley is on my ‘to play’ list. Heathland courses are my favourite type of course. Played ok and rather consistently (admittedly with a few errors) to shoot handicap which I'll take around the rest of my team falling apart.

I’m playing Sherwood Forest tomorrow. Hoping the weather stays nice.

anyone know any ranges with Trackman range within 30-45 mins of Stafford?
Looks like Calderfields has a trackman sim you can hire to practice on. https://foresightsports.eu/foresight-life/total-ra...
There may not be any others in the UK at the moment, but it does suggest that if you use the usual stickers it should be full featured and give you exact club data, while being able to see the full ball flight.

Completely by chance I came across this GC quad range in Norwich, which a couple of years ago was the first one in the country

Our Pro has GC Quad and I have to say in my opinion seems much better than Trackman. That range looks fantastic - and I notice they do an offer of an hour bay hire and 50 balls for £10 - that's great value. Wish I had something as good as that close to me! https://foresightsports.eu/foresight-life/total-ra...
