I've said it before - you can't beat Srixon Z-Star (whichever variation you prefer) at £30 a dozen (if you shop around). I like the Diamond.

Golf has gone off the boil, I'm going to France next week for a few weeks so will leave the clubs at home and worry about it when I get back!

(OK, I might take a wedge with me.......)

Of the ones I know, I'd suggest Royal County Down, Hillside, Porthcawl, Cinque Ports, Glasgow Gailes, Conway, Goswick, Dornoch, Silloth, Seaton Carew, Trump Aberdeen, Royal Aberdeen..

All have massive unconstricted land areas, certainly more than Lytham. Two or three would be regarded as too remote. Most have held significant tournaments. Remember the MLR is coming in to protect historic courses as well, so it might not even be necessary to lengthen them (of course, if you get the Open you will happily buy a few new tees if needed)
Cinque Ports?! Their land parcel is tiny, no way they have enough room.

Access roads are tiny too, would be a logistical nightmare.

Good shouts. I had to quickly move to goalposts and change the parameters to 'open champions this millenium' to make it work smile

Sounds fair!

If you have a zero deree club path then anything other than a perfectly square face will result in curvature. Given face control is extremely difficult, it's not really a functional swing.

You'd be hitting fades and draws and not know what to play for.
This is basically my swing. The pro at my club is always amazed at how straight my club path is, zero or near to zero every time.

Unfortunately my face control isn't as dependable! banghead

Alright lads!

Had a few weeks off, France for nearly 3 weeks and busy at work since I've been back.

However played Knole Park off the back tees on Wednesday in a match, shot 82 which included 4 doubles! Putted really well, got a nice 2 on the 8th.

Lost 2 & 1, little nibble off the handicap back to 8.4.

Noooo.... you can't get rid of me that easily!

Funnily enough high summer seems to be when I have a little bit of a break from golf. Usually holiday time, and to be honest I've normally played so much by now that I need a little break!

Back to it now though, match at home tomorrow afternoon and then Club Championships on Sat/Sun next weekend.

Then only 4 weeks until back up to Hunstanton and Brancaster plus hopefully squeeze Worlington & Newmarket in on the way home too!

I have one of these in navy/white:

But my next purchase will either be a Jones bag or, if I come into some cash unexpectedly, a MacKenzie: https://www.mackenziegolfbags.com/store/products/8...

Grip change - if you're a member of club, then support your pro and pay them to do it! Normally very reasonable.

That's not a bit of bad form, that's Duval after his Open win form redface

Keegan Bradley has every right to be pissed, won twice this year!
Keegan Bradley is a horrible player to watch though, and a pretty miserable person in real life (I met him at the Open in 2021). I wouldn't pick him either biggrin

EDIT: JT is in shocking form though, I would have gone with Lucas Glover

Morning boys!

Golf isn't too bad, playing well but just not scoring. Shot 80 on Sunday - which included leaking 6 shots in the last 3 holes!!

Won lowest gross of the day but ended up 6th biglaugh

Have got a couple of nice weekends coming up, St George's on Sunday then Hunstanton, Royal West Norfolk and Worlington & Newmarket the following weekend.

Good shout Ray, I have the Flint and they are my current go to shoe since I bought them a year ago, very comfy. I have them in Navy:

Agreed.

I'm not a fan of golf shoes that look like trainers to be honest. Feel like I play better when I've got a nice pair of shoes on biggrin

Used to be a big fan of Ecco as well, but their designs are getting worse and worse. Still have a pair of Ecco Tour Hybrid brogues in brown but they're a bit tired now.

Hi all,

Just had a fantastic weekend in Norfolk, playing Brancaster and Hunstanton again - this time with the high tide at Brancaster. Superb.

Playing with the tide up it's a completely different beast, with the water in play on 6 of the front 9. Love the place, we had 36 holes here and it's just such a fun course to play. Very similar to Rye.

Hunstanton was in great condition - highlight was driving the 1st hole and making the eagle putt! Was a fairly stiff breeze straight down and absolutely middled my driver (I don't normally hit it 350 yards!). More of a players course, some really good holes. Happy with a 4 on the last back into the teeth of the wind.

Great fun.

To be honest any amateur golf on TV is fine in my book, also refreshing that it was on the Jubilee course rather than the Old.
