I got out for my first 9 holes of the year today, and I LOVED it, we were at Test Valley.

Putting was rubbish. Wedges were rubbish. Irons were super rubbish. Mini driver was stellar, and big dog didn’t come out the bag.

I didn’t care the golf was rubbish, it was so good to be back out. A nice surprise was that the easy swing drives that I thought were 150-170 yards were actually more like 210-220 hehe

Oh, and I also played the 9 with one ball, unusual for me. There was a lot of hitting it really fat, but I’m happy with my choice of shots. Lots of very pragmatic play, just really poor execution.

Had my first round today at Foxhills on the Bernard Hunt course

Was in lovely condition and I really enjoyed it smile

Was very very busy there mind you

Managed to scrape in an 80 which I pleased with as I sadly had 3 double bogies

Going to get back for the other course this summer I hope
Longcross is one of my favourite courses… I was a member at Foxhills for 5 years and never tired of playing it.

Agreed. It’s a great layout - somewhat underrated.

What’s the golfers equivalent of a cabinet queen shotgun? You know, too nice to be shot, too nice to be hit? As nice as those Mizunos are, you wouldn’t dare hit them.
A mate of mine at Stone has one of those - he spent £750 on a limited edition Scotty, and of course won't dare use it out on the course in case it affects his "investment".

Seems a bit like those 10 year old Ferraris you see for sale with less than 1k on the clock to me, but I guess that's the world of rare Scotty Camerons....

I think it might be a manufacturing defect, I seem to actually recall both the 6 and 7 were fixed under warranty. I have been hitting off mats a lot since the course has been closed but on GC Quad I’m fairly shallow, about 1 down on AoA, been trying to increase that actually.

I’ve seen those brushed copper clubs Bodhi, they look lovely just wonder how well the finish will last? I quite fancy the new Ping i530s but in retro spec lofts. It’s a bit of a pain as fitting isn’t until end of next month, I’m also thinking about going graphite to reduce vibrations and help with my carpal tunnel.
Wow that's not good! Sorry if my post sounded critical of you, I've not heard of these issues before.

I think it'd make me lose all confidence in the set, hope you end up with a positive solution.

No. Not at all. It’s a fair assumption id been hacking the daylights out of them hehe

You’re right about the confidence issue though, very hard to strike an iron properly the rest of the round, I was kind of wincing every time I’d take a divot expecting the head to come off. On the plus side missing both those clubs has me getting creative.

26 points in one of our bigger comps this morning

Really annoyed as it's just down to poor prep. I knew it was going to be cold this morning but arrived at the course late and didn't bother to warm up. Boom, 2 drives OOB hehe

Got a little better and I was +2 v handicap but then just lost my head completely. Stupid game as I played so well last week and remained calm and patient for the whole round.
Need to sort myself out as it's the 1st round of the handicap Matchplay on Friday afternoon and I'm giving away approx 10 shots.

Good to hear everyone's getting out in the course - almost starting to feel like we might get a golf season at this rate hehe

Latest medal at Stone has been postponed (that's 3 in a row now) so came down to the Chase for a few holes. Weather was lovely and course is drying out nicely. Hit the ball well tee to green and was hitting my irons bang on line, just typically coming up a club short all too often. Do feel like I've lost a club of distance but will just go up a club on what I think until I figure out what's going on - woods and hybrids were still going the distance I expect.

Struggling with feel shots round the green though, so pitches from 50 or so yards away. Making contact fine just not judging distances very well - in fairness I haven't really been able to play those kinds of shots for a while given how wet it's been, so just need a bit more practice.

Swindle on at Stone tomorrow, even though they are still on a temporary green will pop down and see if I can win some beer tokens.

We had the cup winners cup today and because I won the long handicap cup at the end of last season, I got to enter.

Weather was nice if a little chilly due to that pesky wind still blowing. A strokeplay comp off the whites and played with two really nice chaps made for a tough but enjoyable knock.

Had a great front nine and was holding it together on the back nine until I took a nine on the stroke index one (14th) after a 7 before it. In the past that might’ve seen me crumble, but I managed to hold it all together and scored well on the last few holes.

Finished with a nett 71 and somehow that was the leader in the clubhouse when I came in (well we were the first group out so maybe that was to be expected!) - 12 hours on and nobody has come in with a better score so incredibly it looks like that the first win of the season for me… well chuffed

Just bought a perfect practice putting mat. Anyone else use one? Just don't have the time at the moment to get to the course and practice currently.

I need something to sort out my putting, trouble is there are literally no flat surfaces anywhere on or near our property!

A bit of an issue..

I'll let you know how I get on. Even holing a few more putts each round will make a huge difference...

Had a very enjoyable game yesterday, playing against me mate who doesn't do winter golf, so has been in hibernation since October. Lovely weather, course is starting to dry out and had a good time catching up and playing some golf.

Other than the fact the bd beat me on the last after not touching a club for 6 months hehe

Went for a final bag checkup before the season starts.

Driver got some minor weight tweaks in the back to reduce spin and also set to one degree flatter.

Wedges got their swing weight changed from d1 to d5 to try and help feel the head more to hopefully help the short game. Short term fix for now with lead tape, if I like it then we will add in some tip weighting.

Irons, tried adjusting the loft and lie to potentially get my launch and peak height down, but we failed. May need to look at a shaft change if I want to chase the ideal flight. It's great in nice conditions, but the launch and peak height kills me when it's windy...

Good stuff Dan, 95chs with a 7i, crikey!

Wes Bryan finished 2nd in the end, I really like the Brothers, they both play great golf, and are very likeable too.
