Funnily enough one of the few positives from this winter has been going back to carrying. Similar to you I've only got 13 clubs most days, a few balls tees and a waterproof, all in my Nike (obviouslysmile) lightweight carry bag and it's been great.

I forgot about the freedom you get walking round the course and as long as you're sensible with what you carry, not as tiring as I remember.
Yep, it really is quite liberating!
Another vote for carrying here. I actually find it easier than pushing a trolley, especially on hilly courses!
Bought a Callaway pencil bag for this season and I love it. I mainly play 9 holes so no need to get the trolley or cart bag out.

I might switch to the trolley if playing 18 in the summer but will see how i go.

3 wood - Paradym Triple Diamond 15* set at 17*
Interesting how you've almost dialed this down to a 5 wood (I suppose it's currently a weak 4 wood?).

A proper strong 3 wood seems to be a club I never need at the moment (14-15 degrees) and is almost a luxury club for the very occasional tee.
Agreed. It’s a weak 4 wood really now. Which fits into my gapping quite nicely. Hitting your 3 wood 270+ is great for vanity but is pointless for scoring well!

Playing crews hill tomorrow

Very under rated course imo. I’ll admit my golf has been poor so far this year but I normally score ok there so might be what I need

I don't have a pic, but the current WITB:

Callaway Paradym 10.5 degree driver @ 10 degrees.
TaylorMade BRNR Mini Driver, 13 degrees turned down to 14.
Wilson D9 5W, 18 degrees
Ping G430 4 Hybrid, 22 degrees
Cobra AirX irons, 5-PW, GW
Titleist Vokey SM9 54 and 58 degree wedges
Odyssey 2 Ball putter

Although I've been wondering if the lightness of my irons is hindering my ability to swing smoothly on course. As an experiment I've picked up a set of second hand Wilson D9 Forged Irons with 95g steel shafts in them. I don't know if it'll work, but I'm looking forward to the experiment!

I think it's just to get some money in quicker to make sure they're comfortable laying out for the re-working of the 1st hole and driving range / practice area. That's costing ~£1mil. The membership numbers are maxed out and fees are reasonable so I think cashflow is all good - certainly the vibe from all the staff is relaxed which would normally be a good tell.
Fair enough, I think I'll try and get down there for a round in the summer.

Also enjoyed Diss golf club last week. It’s not 18 great holes by any means but a lot of good ones and neat and tidy clubhouse. Bargain at £30

My mate uses iron covers. He hates the rattle the irons make, and to be fair his irons do look minty fresh

I want my irons showing dings, dents and battle scars!

Nothing worse than a set of irons with covers on, people are too precious.

I’m playing my first medal on Sunday and the weather looks rubbish. I have always struggled to play with lots of layers on - any recommendations for good rain layers?

I too hate layers (although some folk say that the layers helps with swing tempo, I've never found that - too restrictive).

I have a push trolley and a brolley, and will try and play in shorts and a T shirt / thin jumper in almost any weather. If I hide under the brolley, I can avoid getting too wet.

I do carry a thin waterproof, but it has to be near monsoon conditions for me to take a shot wearing it......

I picked up a Galvin Green waterproof late last year when they had some sales on - think it was about £150 but you barely notice it when wearing it. Sadly they aren't on sale any more so usual Galvin Green pricing now applies (ouch).

Do you use Vinted? Might be worth taking a look on their and see if you can pick up any bargains.

Footjoy Hydroknit. Light, thin, stretchy and actually waterproof.

Layers work if they are the right layers.

Had a fitting last week, currently playing the older Titleist T200. My 7i was being measured at 181yards carry. Spin was stupidly low at around 3600rpm.
He tried fitting me into T100 but i couldn't get on with them, ended up in some T150's & he swapped me from Pro V1 into Pro V1x as i don't appear to spin it very well.
7 iron was down to around 168 yards with the spin numbers where they should be (admittedly, the low spin is down to me), he also changed the shafts i was in as well, so pondering over a new set!

I went through something similar. My old Ping i525s were long but didn’t spin enough. And the dispersion was awful. As with you, the spin is mostly my delivery of the club.

I swapped them for T150s with different AMT Red shafts and I’m now much happier with the ball flight. I can stop a ball with a mid iron on a green now biggrin

The fitter wanted me to get the Nippon shafts, but I preferred the feel of the AMTs. There wasn’t much in it with the numbers.

During the fitting I was 10 yards down on carry with the T150s, but on the course I’m not seeing that, I appear to have not lost any difference.

On top of the two broken irons I was just hit in the arm by an errant tee shot from the 17th that kind of runs opposite, when I was on the second hole. No shout of fore or anything, the guy did apologise and said it was his first time playing. It does fking hurt though.

Really not having a great run of golf related luck at the moment frown
