Of course Chelsea are scared of Spurs!
As a Spurs fan I'm quite disappointed that Carrick is going because he played well for us and I'd like to see Spurs built a stronger side rather than dismantle it. Having said that it's good business to sell a player for £13 million more than we paid for him.

BRIDGE OUT OF TROUBLED CHELSEA
Wayne Bridge is not content to sit around waiting for Ashley Cole to come and take over as Chelsea left-back and is looking for a move away from the club. Newcastle and Celtic are ready to give him an exit route, says The Guardian, with the Toon clearly looking to link him up with his former Chelski teammate Damien Duff. And if he's available for just £1m, they'll have yet another bargain on their hands.
TOON WANT THE BOY HAREWOOD
Newcastle's priority continues to be a striker, and they're going back to West Ham despite being rebuffed in their attempts to sign Dean Ashton. This time their target is Marlon Harweood, and The Sun claims that they are willing to offer £3m plus long-time Hammers target James Milner.
VARGAS AND NUGENT FOR POMPEY
Portsmouth might finally be able to spend some money after they agreed a £1.6m deal for Peruvian international defender Juan Vargas with Colon de Santa Fe, says Sky Sports. They also seem close to agreeing a fee of around £4m with Preston for England Under-21 striker David Nugent, after new owner Sacha Gaydamak insisted that they recruit some English players. That hasn't stopped The Sun saying Red Star Belgrade striker Nikola Zigic is on a long list of targets.
AND THE REST
Wigan have had an offer for Crystal Palace defender Emmerson Boyce accepted...Tottenham enquired about Liverpool winger Harry Kewell but were put off by his £50,000-a-week wages...Chris Sutton is ready to agree a pay-as-you-play deal with Birmingham City...Sunderland are poised to snap up Robbie Elliott from Newcastle...Birmingham are to make a £4m raid on Coventry for striker Gary McSheffrey...Manchester United are chasing Argentina pair Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez...Sunderland hope to sign Aston Villa striker Kevin Phillips for £750,000 - they also want Wigan keeper Mike Pollitt and Spurs midfielder Andy Reid...Portsmouth could make a bid to sign Southampton's want-away defender Danny Higginbotham...Jose Mourinho has given Shaun Wright-Phillips a month to prove he has a future at Chelsea, with Newcastle and Spurs keen on the winger...Middlesbrough are to offer £5m for Manchester City defender Sylvain Distin to beat off competition from Portsmouth...Birmingham have made a £1m offer for Fulham striker Brian McBride...Coventry want Sheffield United striker Geoff Horsfield on a season-long loan.

Dirk Kuyt going to Anfield, anyone going to change their team on the fantasy footie league?
Great choice and I am very tempted to put him in my fantasy team. Good to see Liverpool might just have their striking nightmare sorted out at last
It's a shame Morientes was such a failure. Now everyone think's he's rubbish. I bet he storms La Liga this season at Valencia.

Boumsong to Juventus from Newcastle and Martins to Newcastle from Inter Milan, also a lot of talk up here about Newcastle and The Belgravia Group about take-overs with Sir John going to into a Life President Role.
I can't see why Martins would want to go to Newcastle. They're a fairly average team, and they haven't had a huge amount of success in recent years. They made the Champions' League, but didn't do much, and they haven't won any trophies or anything as far as I can remember. Now Juve are down, Inter might start winning things, whearas with Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool, I can't see Newcastle doing so.
If he goes, he must be getting a HUGE pay rise.

He wants to play in the Premiership, he sees Newcastle as a way of getting there, plus Freddie & Sir John don't pay too bad at all.
