Incredible ride by Landis today. Especially after yesterday`s disaster. Possibly a tour winning ride?

Yep, I think so. Amazing after his terrible day the day before.

I wondered if anyone on PH was watching it. No mention on the Pie & Piston and I rarely come here as all you get is bloody football. Exciting racing, plenty of action and talk about gruelling! Also makes f1 look like paint drying.

Looking forward to when it starts in London next year.

Great to have an unpredictable tour. Probably the first time since Riis won it? Or Indurain in 91?

There was a thread in P&P a while back about it, but it sort of fell by the wayside.

I'll be up at 8am tomorrow (local time here) to catch the TT, I reckon Landis will take it, but it would be ironic if the 8 secs he lost in the prologue due to his mechanical came back to haunt him?

This has been the best TDF in years - the Armstrong era got pretty dull towards the end as it became obvious nobody thought they could beat Lance (or more accurately, US Postal/Discovery). The Alps were brilliant this time, with ten or twelve riders giving it total balls out one at a time knocking each other off.

I've been really impressed with Dessel in the Tour - he really rode amazingly in the Pyrenees and Alps, way way above the level expected of him. Cycling's taken a bit of a bashing lately (looks like Ullrich is well fooked as well), but the crowds out on the stages prove its still as popular. Kloden and Menchov have been a little disappointing and Discovery have been terrible.

I can't wait to get back to Europe for the Tour, I've been on l'Alpe d'Huez for the TT stage and it was an experience I'll never forget.

Hats off to Floyd Landis He seem a genuine sort of guy. Big contrast to Lance..... Is it right the two of them fell out a few years back?

I don't think Landis will be ditching his missus and running off with a pop star.

I think they did fall out a while back which was the catalyst for Landis moving to Phonak as he felt he could be a team leader. He seems must more understated and quiet - how very un-American. Will just have to see what the hip operation does to him now.

I can't get my head around how the entire worlds proffessional cyclist types were beaten by a chap who's hip failed an MOT, and was in an absurd amount of pain!

I know what you mean, but he can still peddle fine with the hip and he says it only starts hurting after 3-4 hours (must be great on the 6 hour mountain stages then). It only really affects his range of motion when he sprints full out, which he hasn't needed to do/avoided doing.

TBH though, cycling requires such massive capacity to beat pain, all of them are in agony for parts of it, so what does a little further pain matter?

Anyone see the winner's Mrs during the live programme yesterday? The presenters commented on her sunglasses afterwards. I didn't even notice them, my eyes were locked-on about 18 inches lower down!

I heard it on the radio as well. First thought going through my head was : Tour de France winner on dope? Naaaaaahhhhhh, couldn't be

Armstrong (along with everybody else) was doped up as well, he just had a better doctor.

Just seen this.....very fishy.....a number of things spring to mind...

1. The French have a bee in their berets about the US. Armstrong v TDF organisers etc.
2. Testosterone - Naturally ocurring - does anyone really still use it as a performance enhancer when there are better things about.
3. He must have known he was going to get tested to death, so wouldn't get away with such a basic error.

Tres etrange........

Maybe he'll try the Dennis Mitchell excuse to explain the high testosterone count of I had some beers and shagged my wife three times the night before the test Well, Landis' missus is quite fit.

The problem is, and I am no expert, that the previous levels of testosterone have shown nowhere near the elevation that was present for that test. he says it is anatural, but apparenntly it does not change in such great amounts. Is it the french doing the testing?
