Carried the team where exactly?

IMO right through the qualifiers to Japan for starters.

Really? Genuinely, I cannot see where this is coming from. Where is your reasoning or evidence to suggest Beckham would act as you both suggest above?

Dont make a difference now as he's not in the squad, but he has been Englands suposed golden boy (not in my book anyway) for that long now that given the chance, especially in friendly matches, he would have tried to undermine Terry's authority.

Sorry, but I still don't see the justification for your assertion. So what if he's been 'golden boy' as you put it for so long, I don't see that that automatically means he's going to get stroppy about no longer being captain. I just cannot see any evidence whatsoever for these suggestions and think that you're doing him a disservice.

The guy has been automatic choice for captaincy and squad for a long time now, no matter how gracious or good-willed you are someone is going to be severly pissed off with not being included in the squad this time, if he ever gets recalled I can see tension happening.

Somehow i suspect the real brains behind the new England set-up won't be the Head Coach....

He might well be upset at not being in the squad, but that doesn't mean he'll be looking to undermine the captain or cause unrest if he is selected again. Why would he do this - despite the stereotype, he's not a stupid person.

IMO you have no basis whatsoever for your assumptions, other than he won't be top dog any more so therefore he's bound to want to cause trouble.

Let's not forget Beckham chose to give up the captaincy. Add to that he's a real patriot... Now explain why you think he would want to sabotage the next captain? That's crap if you ask me, he has done nothing to suggest he has that kind of attitude.

as has been said, he is still a class act and he may be older and slower than he once was, but he is still one of the best English footballers now or ever.

Being older and slower didn't seem to hurt Zidane. I wouldn't put Beckham up there with Zidane but he is the closest we have or have had for a very long time.
