Months ago, for fun, i thought i'd catalog all his idiotic ideas, though if i've overlooked any, feel free to add some below
therefore cue his stupid mistake list for the last world cup...

1. taking school-leaver theo walcott but not using him for even a few minutes of injury time.

2. not taking jermaine defoe [a proven international striker], or if not then darren bent [englands top goal scorer for the year], or the more experienced but youthful andy johnson, or even robbie fowler [englands most experienced striker an who was in form].

3. distracting his players by allowing their wives an girlfriends to accompany them when NO other manager there did likewise.

4. not telling the media rooney's injury wasn't longterm as feared an thus prolonged a pointless national debate around nothing.

5. having his players not conserve energy during the first half of their opening match.

6. not subsituting beckham after the 1st half due to his known 2nd half fatigue problem.

7. not consulting 'penalty taking expertise' during penalty training sessions.

8. not using a definitive midfield anchor-man in a positional team role as standard.

9. playing rooney in the completely wrong position, an thus triggering his well-known bad temper.

10. not persuading paul scholes more to stay on-team, even if only as a super-sub for big matches.

11. being overly defensive with only a single goal lead.

12. not substuting underperforming players sooner while leaving talented ones unused.

13. leaving domestic matches for research 15 minutes early, when critical plays are more likely to occur.

* agree / disagree?

ps- though many points are regarding the last world cup, others do also cover his entire reign.
pps- i stoped at '13' points only as that number seems to sum-up englands luck regarding the managers theyre lumbered with.

I think Maclaren will be even worse, but really effin FA are to blame. They should all have quit when the Sven went.

Apart from the fact Andy Johnson is a diving tosser and not worthy of selling programmes for England, let alone playing for them, you're spot on.

You left out playing Beckham whether he was on form or not, just because he's David Beckham. My biggest problem with Eriksson was he was a very media-oriented manager, kind of the football equivalent of new labour. Be seen at the right places and be photographed with the right people, and never mind the problem, just think about how to manage the press conference about the problem. Beckham would have gone ages ago were it not for merchandise sales, and thick Sun-reading clots who would have backed their inevitable 'bring back Becks' campaign. rolleyes

Really? The bloke's shite, has been for at least three seasons now and couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo without missing half a dozen times first. Along with Shevchenko, probably one of the most underperforming and overrated players in the Premiership.

what you mean Genius, as in failing to beat portugal in 2006, when 2 of their best players weren't even playing?

duh!!

ps- an mcclaren only lost his last game coz the daft strikers didnt run forward to recieve the ball but trotted back!

...for when in a 3-5-2 formation you get extra length to play with, unlike with a 4-4-2, an so the strikers are meant to stretch play forward - not compress it by drifting back an thus giving the midfield little option when passing forward.
...an which is a coaching problem, not a managing problem.
DUH!

At least Sven qualified for tournaments, something which Mclaren appears to be struggling with.

Why do people say the plaers are great when they perform well...yet its the manager when they do sh!t.

Sven was very clever, and actually didn't do that badly. But everyone wanted him out.

McLaren people said great to have such a performer in charge, now as he's not as expected everyone wants him out.

Anyone thought its the players that need to pull their fingers out.

For the amount these guys early then should really put more effort into to training and less time shopping.

yeah, for a scotsman, world an euro cup competitions must be a real washout for home support

in fact sven couldnt really do any worse if he managed scotland as NO ONE EVER would expect him to take scotland to 3 quarter finals !!!
