Im a massive rugby fun and do enjoy the NFL. To compare the two is simply stupid. There are bigger hits in NFL more often but there are just as big hits in rugby. The tackling in NFL is very different too. The blocking argument is stupid too, you allowed to do it one and not in the other, no arguments and comparison.
Both great games, very different
Don't slag off a sport you don't understand and can't appreciate.
I can't appreciate it because its sh1t much like baseball and basketball.

Watch it and learn the rules then reconsider your comment

Over here we have a game called 'Rugby'
Somewhat of a condescending comment don't you think.... especially in reference to an international sport!!

Try running full pelt into a guy who weighs 300 lbs, then come back and ask me that question again!
Similar to your comment then?

Huge NFL fan here. Cowboys for the Superbowl this year - Romo is an excellent qb and TO is beginning to get his act together as well.
Quite a few teams looking good. Tough to call, Baltimore, Indianapolis and San Diego are looking good though
I'd add New Orleans to that as well.
AFC will be contested by Indianapolis and New England and the NFC by Dallas and Chicago.
I'll take that to be honest ... Chicago don't actually have an offence at present time.
Grossman is a bit hot and cold I grant you.
But what a defence! Urlacher is the best defensive player in the NFL IMO. Reminds me of Lawrence Taylor in his dominance.

Then why bother to contribute to this thread?
I love rugby and NFL. They are totally different but equally physical and violent.

If you are going to quote me, do it properly and include the emoticon indicating humour.... now restored to it's rightful place.
Look, you don't get NFL, that's fine.. none of us are going to lose any sleep over it, but unless you try to understand the sport then there really is little point in you "contributing" to this thread is there!!
The reason they wear padding is because the style of hitting would be dangerous without it... the rules and techniques are not the same as rugby, hence why comparison is without merit!
Besides, professional rugby players from both codes do wear protective gear these days, it may not be NFL style hard body armour, but it is still protection... check the link if you don't believe me!!

Here are another couple of links to the IRB website, detailing the rules for protective equipment and the range of approved items:

The main difference (other than not wearing padding) is that the big guys (only around 280lbs) in rugby actually have to be able to move, rather than just block. Rugby also involves extended periods of play without a break (ie longer than 20seconds).
Also, in rugby its illegal to block a defender from making a tackle (unlike NFL). You see bigger hits in rugby, fact.

Hmmmm, think I've just proved you wrong on that point!
So you don't think NFL players can move?!!.... pretty odd statement considering that some of the fastest sprinters in the world play in the NFL, not to mention that fact that a number of former olympians have played in the league... ok, the linemen are quite bulky, but the mobility and fitness of the linebackers, full backs and tight-ends would put many rugby forwards to shame, whilst the running backs and strong safeties would be more than a match for the likes of Mike Tindall.
Blocking is just one aspect of the game and there is a limit to what can be done.... making big hits and ferocious tackles (rugby style) are just as important to the defensive strategy and game play.

Chicago don't have a good enough offence. They will be outscored in a play off game. Seahawks are coming good again, Shaun Alexander and Hasslebeck fit and going good.
Love to see Dallas in the final ! If any of you guys are in London, we (12 of us) head to Bodeans in Soho for their superbowl party on the Sunday night. American beers, ribs, big screens, lots of Yanks and too many high fives. Next day is a write of though.

Is it me or are most of qbs in the League pretty awful this year. A classic example has to be Michael Vick. Sure the guy can run but passing wise he is pretty hopeless. I mean in the past theres been Marino, Aikman, Montana and the like. Today none of them stand out.
I watched Atlanta the other week. Vick rushed himself for 150 yds which was pretty amazing for a QB (I think he's already 4th in the alltime list for rushing yds by a QB?) but his receivers dropped 4 perfectly good passes, all of which would have lead to good field position. So maybe its not all his fault...
Peyton Manning is up there with the best of all time. His brother Eli will be also in the future. Brady has a great record. Romo is going to be a star. Brees is pretty hot......... I also think Gradkowski has potential, but he's still a rookie.

So, guys, which players are incredible and I should look out for?
Reggie Bush
Dont disagree with that. he was pretty awesome last Sunday.
If you want to watch destructive defense at its best watch Urlacher.
If you want to watch a cool QB at the top of his game Peyton Manning.
Did anyone else see the feature that Shaun Gayle did on tackling and blocking techniques the other day?
The way he was able to make those incredible double plays, first stepping up to the line to make blocks on linemen, then releasing in an instant to tackle the running back... awesome player!!
