Discussion
Yeh I have some blades, so normally on a 'fun' holiday wouldnt have botherd with skiis but wanted full length skiis because of the icy conditions, plus I dont have my own boots, really need to get some now my feet have stopped growing! Like I say 175 euros I could have spent on other stuff!
BTW. Awesome Tiv looks like a right monster!

WHISTLER REPORT.....
Just returned after 11 day trip and never seen so much snow. They had 20 odd inches day we arrived, We got another 6-8" / day for next 4 days then some sunshine but temp down to -28. Was snowing again as we left. Knees are about worn out Anyone else lucky enough to be heading out there?

Just had some Canadian friends over and we are planning a trip out there next year. New Year in Chicago, New Years day NFL game if the Bears are playing, then up to Whistler for 12 days skiing.
Should be awsome. How were the lift q's, i've heard they can get pretty bad there ?
Sure do. Only Sony E phone quality tho.
Lift queues not to bad but they dont have the same uplift as European resorts so may be bad at peak times. Once up out of base gondolas usually ok. Slopes seemed v quiet, almost deserted at times. Canadians v friendly and queue orderly. No pushin & shovin.

I'm going to Panorama in Canada on Feb 14th. I know i'v e already said as much but it seems a bit more relevant now.
Does anyone know why everybody goes to Banff or Whistler and not where i'm going in Panorama.
Anyway....who's skiing and who's boarding this winter? I'll be boarding. I'm pretty sure i'd break something trying to ski. Snowboards are far more forgiving for someone as unagile as I am.

There are a large number of Canadian/North American resorts that don't show up on the radar. As to why, well they probably think that the US/Canadian and Australian/New Zealand (Summer Hols) markets are big enough to concentrate soley on. Accessibility is also an issue, although more direct flights are becoming more common.
Big White and Silver Star are now owned by an Australian family, are served by Kelowna Airport (never heard of it? - neither had I) and don't really worry about the UK market.
This might change if snow in Europe continues to be crap. It is however a minimum 20hr trip, door to door - with the added joy of Jet-Lag when you get back. Whistler and Banff are also much better developed in offering a more diverse range of accomodation / shopping etc.
As an aside, if the global-warming ain't-nothing-to-do-with-us sentiment is correct, and it's all a solar blip - there might be an opportunity to get into some cheap Alps property over the next few years if people start to panic......
