I've often pondered performance-related pay not just in F1, but in things like footy and cricket.

Footballers! How about being paid a pound a week, but get a hundred grand for a win? Twenty large for a goal? Adjust numbers to taste.

Perhaps England's openers would be less carefree with their wicket if they were paid a fiver a week and a hundred pounds a run with suitably chunky bonuses for fifties and centuries.

I agree, but at the end of the day, sports "companies" are competing with other "companies" for the services of "players", so that'll not happen in the current climate.

It frustrates me that Michael Owen can take a full wage whilst being injured for a year. Yes, it isn't his fault, yes, an injury happened whilst he was playing for England, but at the end of the day, NUFC are paying for his services, and all they have done for the past year is pay even more for private health care for him. To think that he could leave this summer for another club, and there be no wages rebate is amazing, given the very high wages paid...
