He wants to face small, old GSP, instead of large, young Bones. It's in his best interest for keeping his streak I suppose.
GSP is 31, 6 years younger than Silva! If GSP beats Condit (a very tough opponent IMO) I would definitely be interested in that fight.

Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen announced as the coaches on TUF 17 smile

Starts in January, and they'll be fighting in April.

Cue the Sonnen Smack-talk-o-matic and the Jones bible-thump-o-matic kicking into overdrive hehe

Time for Jones to get over his injury then. Anyone know how bad it was?

Jones vs Sonnen

This is absolute farcical.

Firstly Sonnen is coming off a loss. He was badly beaten by Silva. Granted he was prepared to step up and fight Jones at short notice on the card that never was. He had a fight booked against Forrest, so has not fought at 205 for a considerable time. This fight has now been cancelled. FWIW I thought Forrest would win that fight. Sonnen struggles against fighters who can counter or neutralise his wrestling. Forrest would counter the wrestling and be bigger and stronger than Sonnen and will pick him to bits.

I guess that UFC has done this to reignite interest in the TUF series. Sonnen’s mouth will be interesting and will get under Jones skin. It has already started.

This will be a daft fight which Sonnen & the UFC will hype the hell out of. It also makes a mockery of working towards a title shot. If a fighter can talk his way into two title shots at one weight class, he then can talk his way into another at 205 without fighting a gatekeeper, Can, or contender at 205.

It would certainly get me interested, but since it will appear on the invisible channel I won't be watching it.
I won't be watching anything until Dana treats the UK market seriously.biggrin

Sonnen v Griffin... reallY? You think a 205lb Sonnen would be weaker than Griffen. Doubt that very much. Also, imo, he is a far more rounded and dangerous fighter who could very quickly get dominance of Griffin/take him down, his wrestling is in a different class.

Also, given who he's fought and how well he's done overall do you really think Forrest deserves a better right to a shot? Hardly had a stellar career over the past few years, books aside.

As for Jones - probably 'not a chance'! But at least the show should be entertaining.

Yep, Griffin is one of the biggest 205'ers, he walks around at about 240lb iirc. If Sonnen can't take the fight to the ground he struggles.

I don't think that Forrest deserves a shot. I also don't see that Forrest is a stepping stone for a title shot, more a stepping stone towards the higher levels of the division.

I've been thinking about this, and I have to ask.... Why don't you think the UFC take the UK market seriously?
There events are free to air on a satellite station (not PPV).
There has been one TUF UK and now we have TUF The Smashes.
They hold events in the UK (unlike somewhere that has a massive martial arts following, such as Holland).
Cons - well, it is ESPN (I happen to like the set of channels you get with it - loads of rugby as well).

The PPV thing is really interesting, as us Brits traditionally do not buy PPV the way the Yanks do (as in numbers). Therefore I think the UFC is making the best of it....

I think I have mentioned it before. The TUF stuff used to be on Bravo, or some channel that you got in the basic extra package. ESPN is not free. It's another channel I have to add, which would be purely for UFC. It's a noddy channel next to Sky, it's a big name in the USA. If Dana wants his product to grow in the UK he needs to place it on a channel where it can reach people, not hidden away on ESPN.
I did like the stuff 5 was doing, but it is so sporadic and so very poorly coordinated that it's 50/50 if you catch it or not. When it all switched to ESPN a year or so ago I switched off from the UFC and get my updates mostly from this thread. I read up on results from sherdog and watch stuff on 5 when it's onbiggrin

I get ESPN free with BTvision on a basic package, I hope it stays there for a long time smile

I dont and wont have Sky, so would have to find other ways to watch. I dont quite see why people moan about UFC on ESPN, it is more readily availably than if it went to SKY. (Most TVs have a card slot, as do freeview box's)

ESPN also show so other MMA/Kickboxing and the DTM smile you also get lots of the football if thats your thing.

I get espn on virgin and really enjoy all the UFC programming (TUF included). Also a fair bit of other good sport on it too, boxing, rugby union etc. Much as Dana might want everywhere to be PPV I don't think it works in the UK. Only way I would of done it in the past would be a big boxing fight and get my mates over with beers. Not many of my mates watch MMA so that won't happen.

Regards the recent card, the Glover fight was amazing, that guy he beat is TOUGH. Glad my missus didn't see that one she would of thrown up lol Thought Hermann took the p**s, low hands, no respect for Nog's punching and ofcourse he got submitted. Odd performance from him. Never a big fan of fitch but I thought he fought really well against a dangerous opponent. Was a little disappointed the Silva fight was over so quick, but if that knee dropped a guy like bonner it must of been a heavy strike. All in all I enjoyed it.

If I got espn free, then my view point would be different. biggrin It seemed to me that possible UFC catchment was reduced when the move was made, though if Five can just act like a decent channel for once, that situation could be revered. I hold out hope for that.
I don't like 99.99% of sport, especially nancy boy ursehole foot the ball. biggrin
I pretty much only like UFC. I can handle some of the lower order, tacky/chavvy MMA producers, if they're not fronted by shaved-headed, bling-sporting, East end Kray wannabes.biggrin

I admit the fact it's free does make a difference wink but I was prepared to pay £10 per month when we first looked at tv packages as like you UFC is one of my only sporting passions (f1 is just as big but that's for the many other TV coverage threads!). With the amount of events per year I think it's a good price and works out a few quid per show.

I also think channel 5 should do more with it, they have enough channels to show an event at prime time on say a sat night, even if it is a few weeks after the live show. Then there is more chance of growing the uk fan base.

Who will she fight? I have a horrible feeling that the UFC are taking the WWF/E model, over-exposing and saturating themselves, and then the decline starts...
