As a Russian and a muslim, his marketing reach is/was huge
There's another guy, in boxing, called Artur Beterbiev who is just as formidable as Khabib was at UFC. With the correct marketing he could be a standout champion too. Both have 100% records and look like they're brothers. That region of the world just breeds ferocious athletes.

That 1lb can be massive, he looked poor when he weighed in and obviously had a hard weight cut,
The scales were definitely dodgy, if he was overweight and was forced to take the extra hour or 2 to lose that 1lb it could have ruined him meaning JG may have won. Or he may not have been able to make the weight, I’m not sure if it’s the same as boxing where he’d forfeit the title on the scales though.
He’s a dominant performer though, but I don’t think the UFC will miss him to much in a commercial sense. PPVs are where the money is and there’s bigger sellers out there and to come too
Who are the bigger sellers out there except Conor? And who are the ones coming through who will be anywhere Khabib's PPV level? The scales were definitely dodgy, if he was overweight and was forced to take the extra hour or 2 to lose that 1lb it could have ruined him meaning JG may have won. He was essential for 'building the brand' across the world. Dagestan Muslim, dont underestimate this guys worldwide appeal. I agree with another poster as, incredibly, I dont think we saw the best of him. A mannerful, passionate, honourable man who could do it all. People forget, he outfought McGregor on his feet before tearing him up on the ground. I always felt he did that to make a point and could have ended the fight sooner had he chosen to. If Khabib puts hands on an opponent his grappling, strength and control was overwhelming for even top contenders. One can perhaps argue that he is right to have retired even from the point, where was his next challenge coming from?
I think the whole situation with him and McGregor was deplorable, started by McGregor chucking that sack barrow through the bus window and ended with Khabib's mates jumping McGregor after their fight.However....
He is a hell of a warrior and deserves to retire with an unsullied record, just a shame his father didn't survive to see him retire. Like him or loath him, i think he is arguably the best of his generation.

Edit. That was uncharacteristically ill tempered from me, apologies, I just can't stand the posturing oaf.

Don't think he would be calling it a day right now if his dad was still here though. However....

McGregor stoked a fire he shouldn't have went near, criticised a proud man's culture, country and religion. He is a self publicist first and foremost and is becoming an even worse human being, hitting pensioners in pubs. fk him and his horse.

It's your opinion and i dont disagree with you , he's definitely believing his own hype these days.Edit. That was uncharacteristically ill tempered from me, apologies, I just can't stand the posturing oaf.

Anyone know what Mike Perry weigh on fight day considering he was over the weight limit (4.5lbs) on weigh in day?
Not sure, did not look like a huge advantage on the night, what a fight the guys put on. Decent card, surprised how much Shevchenko struggled albeit in a clear win. One of my favourite fighters. You have to give credit to Maia, she takes a punch very well and can give one back.
Maybe Shevchenko wasn't 100% confident with her mobility as she had a MCL operation back in April?
I wonder if the $27k loss of pay was worth the cheeseburgers and onion rings that Perry ate during his fight camp

It’s an interesting topic. It’s literally your job to be on weight! I think it’s a sign of a fighter who has lost the hunger, motivation and drive. Obviously 1lb or 1/2 Ib fair enough but 4-5 Ib is poor.Maybe Shevchenko wasn't 100% confident with her mobility as she had a MCL operation back in April?
