Dana practically owns MMA, there is no other Market for these stars to use as Leverage to earn more money. Connor broke out by boxing and you can be damn sure Dana will try his best to make sure no one becomes that popular again.
He doesn't have much if any of a stake since it was sold but is still the president

I get some of the complaints by the same token it was nowhere, the sport as a whole really still is a bit of a backwater compared to some others and below the UFC I think you'd be shocked at the pay/prizes these guys compete for

If an alternative got some legs and got going then these guys might have an argument with the UFC but really they are the only game in town, certainly to earn the kind of money some of them do, its more like WWE in that respect, its not necessarily good enough to be a great fighter anymore you need the "show" with it, the ones that do are probably set for life, the others probably do well but...

Are they signing long term contracts before they are a big name? That will limit their earning potential for sure.
I thought they signed contracts guaranteeing them at least 3 fights a year which is probably good for fighters lower down the order who want to earn and get wins on the bounce to increase their earnings.

I believe bellator does pay better lower down the order but doesn’t have the name value of the UFC.

There was reasonably interesting online discussion about Nate Diaz after his fight the other week and as to why he didn't finish the guy after rocking him hugely and how he was there for the taking but Diaz chose to point and showboat instead. The discussion was almost 50/50 split that Diaz either doesn't give a toss about money and fights for the sheer hell so didn't care if he won or lost or if he was being uber shrewd by not finishing the fight as it cemented his 'brand' even further thus maximizing revenue.

I don't think he's smart enough to think about his brand. The most likely explanation is probably the simplest one: he couldn't finish the fight at the time.

Conor McGregor tops 7 out of 12 highest UFC PPV's of which 4 were non title fights, the other 5 were Usman x 1, Lesner x 2 and Rousey x 2.
I would have thought Dana or the UFC had co-promotion rights for McGregor v Mayweather as why would you let your biggest star have a boxing match.

Paige VanZant has made more via "social media" than fighting, she was for me a top 10 fighter but not a title challenger material, although probably was the best looking female fighter a bit like Anna Kournikova.

She's not going to be photogenic for long if she keeps doing those bare knuckle fights.

Healing time, make-up and the "right clothes" can make Paige very photogenic!

I'm predicting Dustin will smash Conor. CM lost his mojo several years back but the money lures him back every time.

I think there will be a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz and then CM retires. He may or may not win against ND. Result doesn't matter really but the fight will sell well

I think you are right but I'd love to see CM find some of that old magic again.

I think the fight will go the distance with a points decision to Dustin.

I think Dustin smokes him again too. All the other fighters on the roster since Mcgregor won his belts have improved vastly.

Mcgregor hasn’t improved at all. His ground game was always questionable and the rest have either worked out or caught up to his striking.

I hope he has somehow regained the magic but he’s been sleeping in silk Pyjamas too long.

80/20 in favour of Dustin for me

Conor seems a bit desperate with his trash talk and Dustin seems calm and collected.
As Dustin said, the pressure really is on Conor and has more of a point to prove. A defeat will further lower his clout in the game of mma.

Couldn’t agree any less. I hope he gets a hammering that finally finishes him. We might then be able to see our flag flown for people a little less embarrassing to our country.
That’s not intended as a slight on whatever fighting talent he undoubtedly has, just on him as a person.

Interesting.....is that really how the Irish view him back home?

I knew an irish girl and she thought he was an "eejit".

Like everyone I’m sure he divides opinion. I can’t speak for everyone, and the above is only my opinion. Having said that anyone I know is of a similar opinion to me. Maybe it’s we that are wrong. My feet are firmly in Camp Poirier.

I just like the fighting.

Bit like I think Hamilton is a bit of a prat these days, but I like to watch him drive.

I bet that hurt a bit. Poor form from Poirier to start pounding him when he had seen what had happened

The referee is there to do a job. You stop for no one else.

Absolutely no class about CM. He's just a scumbag that came along at the right time, without that KO over Aldo his rise would not have been meteoric. His post-match comments were utterly woeful.
