Won't give the result away but the Groves Serra fight was brilliant, scary at times with some fantastic punching from both men. Very, very well worth catching.

Guerro up next.
yes

One of the best fights I've seen in a long time, properly enthralling.

I see I am in the minority here, perhaps I have the rose tinted specs on because I like Pavlik. To try and respond to a few at once, I would say the only top tier fighters in that division are Martinez and Ward. Froch, Pavlik, Kessler are a rung below. Also Pavlik has been down once in his career and he has fought at a higher weight. If you think Froch would win by a 'brutal knockout' you are very much mistaken.

Anyway the matter at hand, Olympics. I thought the young Welsh kid looked very good, great chance of a medal there... Fred something (Davis I think) and I want the hometown boy Josh Taylor to do well.

Do we have any heavyweights fighting?

Pity they're not actually in the same weight division, but hey-ho...

Okay, has everybody (who intended to do so) watched the George Groves fight now...?

ok,he finished in style but his wide open hittability tells me that the cream of the division would dismantle him with ease.can you imagine what someone like andre ward would do to him??

Well, Groves was fairly gung-ho in terms of his defence in this fight, but my impression was that was he had decided to take that gamble as although Sierra was heavy-handed, he wasn't lightning-fast. Yes, he certainly got caught a few times but, in fairness, the length of time he spent out of the ring might have meant his timing wasn't quite as sharp as it might have been. Of course, if that were the case, you could question the wisdom of adopting a strategy of keeping a low guard and relying on reflexes to slip the initial attack, with good reason. That said, when he did get the timing right, it looked beautiful.

I'd agree that if Groves fought the cream of the division (does that include Kelly Pavlik?!) in that way, he could find himself in a heap of trouble but, as we saw with the DeGale fight, he's more that capable of fighting in a disciplined/cagey way if required. I get the impression with Groves that he's still testing himself out; seeing where the boundaries lie. The one concern I would have though is of him gaining a little too much confidence in the resilience of his chin, having taken a few shots from a 'banger' relatively well...

Groves looked good, got caught a few times, his inactivity showed though.

I think he's still a bright prospect.

That would be punching well above his weight. Anyway, he's married now isn't he?

Did you notice how nervous he looked waiting for the bout to start?

Yep, he's nowhere near the top fighters in the division - or nearly the 'finished article' yet - so would only have a very small (KO) chance against the 'big boys' (obviously he'd spark Pavlik though! whistle )

He has got quick reflexes but is too open and gets hit too often (and his chin isn't invulnerable) but he's become exciting to watch. When he goes for it he punches very well from different angles and with either hand and has developed some real KO power. Pity he was so tentative against DeGale - admittedly he won, but he made it look in the balance and that he was afraid to exchange at times. i think if he fought like he has recently he could have hurt DeGale and won more convincingly. Still, old news so 'will be interesting to see how he handles Anderson.

Looks like Lamont Peterson has been cleared and retains the title!

http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15...

What will Khan say now about his comments (after the fact of course) that he could tell, that something was wrong, that Peterson was just so strong etc? Nothing actually, obviously...
