Not a troll here, honest. This has maybe been asked before so sorry but...
Genuine question...
Raiders ( remember Marcus Allen from the 80's when NFL first hit UK shores?) I watched their highlights tonight against the Saints. Las Vegas? What???
Oakland - LA- Oakland - Las Vegas? Really??? fking landlords chasing you for rent or something??
Many other teams have moved over the years, we know this but I just understand it. Our football is imbedded in tradition and roots ( MK Dons/Wimbledon) being an obvious exception. Over there it seems so common, As a fan I'd likely be raging at the almost dismissive afterthought to the fan base/home crowd.
I guess money is the obvious driver? Or?
Honestly, I think it's an insult. Do they practice that as much in baseball/basketball?
Just doesn't sit right with me. Is their no loyalty to the home fans? What gives?
( and unless you can spot a PH post with so many question marks, I win )
Yep its normally about the owners and wanting new stadiums and playing cities off against each other on who will build them. Not been loads of moves over the years, but most stories relate to the host city not wanting to fund the stadium build so they move. I think Las Vegas have been wanting a team for years, and the Raiders have been back and forth between Oakland, LA and then back to Oakland. Genuine question...

Other recent ones are St Louis Rams moving back to LA, and the Chargers moving from San Diego to LA as well.

It appears its rife across the US for most sports. Owners dont want to fork out for the stadium, so they get the public to partially fund it.

Indeed. The quality of punditry from former American Footballers (in general, not just the BBC pair) is much better than former 'soccer' players commenting on their sport. Is this perhaps because the American players had to go through a university education before getting into the professional game, whereas 'soccer' players all leave school at 16 and most young players in the big team academies only have the legal minimum education from their early teens.

I think it’s because they’re similar to the NHL in that the teams are a franchise. So unlike the U.K. where the teams are generally bonded with a city, in the US the teams can be moved if say the fan base dwindles, they get an offer of better support from another city etc. Genuine question...

C5 coverage of the ESPN / MNF is turning out pretty well. Kirsten & MJD seem to have the banter down quite well and last night / this morning they had Sam Quek & her husband on all night reacting to the game. Sam explaining some British, scouse & northern slang terms to MJD was pretty funny too.

I'm really enjoying the new Locker Room section they've added this year. Nice addition to get an idea of what's going on in the players minds.Challo said:

I wonder if the British Rb at the bills will get a call up/would be good to see him play (even if I don't know his name)
Is that Christian Wade the ex-Wasps player?Sorry missed this, yes it is.
I see hes been offered a rugby contract as well (in the Premiership), if its doesnt work out for him. Hopefully it will though the Bills ar elooking good at the moment

Its annoying that they arent putting the MNF on catch-up, im sure one of the channels used to do it?!?Also, anyone notice that when Osi backs the Cowboys as being a sure thing, they lose?
And im going with Packers vs Chiefs Superbowl (pending on injuries)
Talking of which, does there seem to be more injuries this season or is it just me?

No, it's not just you. I guess it's because the teams have had to hit the ground running without having the usual pre-season friendlies to get up to match speed.Edited by Bonefish Blues on Wednesday 30th September 10:24
Looks like the Giants are making sure they tank the season. No TD's again, and a total of 47 points across 4 games.
Defense looks half decent, but we cannot move the ball on Offense. Gave up 4 sacks in the first half alone. Not great when you QB has 2 TD vs 5 INT.
Gonna be a LONG season.

Yep, long and painful! I don't know if the Giants are tanking just yet (the Jets on the other hand may be a different story). There did seem to be a genuine effort on Giants' last drive to score a TD, but they ran out of talent. Apparently Jalen Ramsey and Golden Tate had a punch up after the game as well - Ramsey has two kids with Tate's sister... Defense looks half decent, but we cannot move the ball on Offense. Interesting question for me is if they end up with the number 1 pick, do they stick with Daniel Jones or take Trevor Lawrence with the first pick? Jones isn't terrible and would do better with a better OL, but I think Lawrence is worth it. Probably a moot point cos Giant's will manage to scrape a win or two and end up picking at 4 or 5 again and continue on their pursuit of mediocrity.
Was interested to read this morning that the Dolphins have the Texans' first AND second round picks next year. Texans are 0-4!

For the Giants i think Judge is a good option for a HC, but unsure on Garrett. He stopped calling the plays in Dallas, so unsure what makes him better this year. The difficulty with NFL is their is so many moving parts in a team, and Jones is struggling but not helped by a porus OL, and receviers not getting open. Is the play calling rubbish, who knows.
Things will improve this year, but Jones defo needs to get better on his reads and not turning the ball over. Too many fumbles, and INT's at the moment and its killing their progress. I think we will do enough to screw ourselves over a 1st round pick.

Agree with your view on Garrett - if he wasn't able to get a tune out of the Cowboys offense, how can anyone expect him to do well with calling the plays for the Giants? He does clap a lot mind...

Where on earth did that Dolphins scoreline come from (I know, mostly Garoppolo)? Perhaps *clutches at straws* my boys aren’t quite so st after all.
Although I’m happy to concede that yes they usually are.
Covid is doing some strange things lately. Although I’m happy to concede that yes they usually are.
Anyone watch the game last night? Must say, ch5 coverage is alot better than Amazons TNF and their stty ads.
