Steady lads, this is a quiet thread but if the mods get wind it'll be tinned! Shall we stick to the cricket?!

Australia's latest panic team shuffle.

Out

Marcus North
Doug (the rug) Bollinger
Xavier Doherty
Simon Katich (injured)

In.

Michael Beer (replaces Docherty)
Phillip Hughes (replaces Katich)
Steven Smith ?
Mitchell Johnson ?
Ben Hilfenhaus ?

Squad. - Shane Watson, Phillip Hughes, Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Brad Haddin (wk), Steven Smith, Mitchell Johnson, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, Michael Beer, Ben Hilfenhaus.

Johnson in again after being dropped in Adelaide, it all seems a bit desperate.

They are really in a mess. This guy Beer has only played a handful of first class games. MJ is in and out like a yoyo. Smacks of real desperation to me. Hope this guy Beer doesn't get a 5 for now if he plays hehe

Apparently Warne rates him and there wasn't anyone else they haven't tried yet. hehe

Interesting thing is that they don't seem to have replaced North with a batsman? Presumably one of these guys that is coming is handy with a bat too ? Don't really understand it as they already have Watson as an all rounder. Looks like they are going to have five bowlers plus Watson so Haddin will be batting at six which he's certainly looked good enough for so far.

Hopefully one of our Australian friends can enlighten us!

Tremlett didn't take any wickets but went for less than two an over in the tour match so I would say he's in.

Yep moving Haddin up I think and they will bring in another 'all rounder'. Tremlett had 2 dropped as well I think so he looks like a shoe in.

Steve Smith is a batting allrounder who bowls leg spin, possibly the best fielder in Oz over the last couple of years which can't hurt.

I umpired him quite a bit in juniors and he certainly had all the toys at that level and has obviously continued to develop, was junior cricketer of the year for the same club a Jason Gillespie was some many years ago. ( rather ironically as a batsman ).

Good to see your ready replacements for Broad set the world on fire in the tour match today.;)

I can imagine the scene.

Suthol: What do you bowl son.

Smith: Right arm over.

Suthol: What's that son, you'll have to speak up I'm very old and deaf.

Smith: RIGHT ARM OVER.

Suthol: What's all over?

Smith: RIGHT ARM FKIN OVER!

Suthol: You want to get your leg over? No time for that son, we're here to play cricket.

Smith: Here Grandad, just hold my fkin jumper and see if you can count to 6 without getting confused.

Suthol: Over.

As so Smith is primarily in for his batting? He must be pretty much a certainty then as otherwise the tail would be VERY long? Might give Punter good options I suppose....could effectively have two spinners and four seamers (including Watson) at his disposal. Obviously the selectors are expecting a run fest and are more worried about taking wickets than scoring runs...fair enough I suppose. I read something quoting the WA manager who said Beer is a good bowler for slowing the run rate down? I assume that means left arm over like the King of Spain when England were using him that way.

It does smell of last chance saloon though...I mean where do they go if they lose at the WACA ? Another three or four changes ?

What Australia are going through has interesting parallels with what English Rugby went through post the 2003 RWC....basically half a team of world class players retiring very close to each other with very little of similar class coming through. Except with the Australian cricket team they have the added problem of losing a couple of all time greats not just best of their generation .

Despite bowling well in places, Broad's contribution so far has been 2 wickets at 80 a piece and a golden duck. Tremlett can match those stats I'm sure.

Blimey, so are we going to replace Broad with Monty or let Colly bowl more and bring in another batsman.

Reports saying it's a dead wicket but even so... Collingwood & Strauss in the wickets?! At least they all only went at two an over. Boycs reckons Tremlett will get the nod.

Anyway as has been said before, it's not us that needs to worry about getting 20 wickets, Aussies need to win 2 out of the 3 reaining tests. With that in mind the form of our batsmen is particularly reassuring. Everyone is making runs.

Bell is quietly having a great tour....think he's scored over 600 runs so far.

Bell looks to be in the best touch he has been for quite a while.

Good to hear. At our club I'm the only one to put Bell down as top scorer and Swann as top wicket taker over the whole tour. There's a decent bit of cash behind the bar riding on that too. C'mon Sherminator.
