I think an email reply to our Sydney office will be in order this morning, it's bad form but feck it why not.

Think I'll reply to that one they sent me in the first Test, when Strauss was out 3rd ball and PoiderSiddle had just got a hat trick. That seems a lifetime away now.

This will be sweet.

Well done boys.
You definitely shouldn't point out that:

There have never been 3 Innings Defeats in the 130 year history of the Ashes

They are now ranked 5th in Test rankings
they're busy now saying "you're only fourth and SA or India would hand you your arses".

Well done to the English! This was an amazing performance. I am really looking forward to the next South Africa v England series and even more to inflicting further pain on the (used to be good) aussies.

Not a chance, you will win that one because our boys will still be finding their feet by who knows by what margin.

I suspect the next home ( for us ) ashes will have our form heading back in the right direction and the result will be quite different to this one.

Please enjoy your five minutes in the sun, fk knows you have suffered for a long time and may well that suffering return and soon.

Speaking to some very nice English fans ( contradiction I know ) at the pub on the evening of day three and they said please feel for us a bit, we came out here last time for the last two tests and were already 3-0 down at least this time it was still 1-1 when we stepped off the plane.

Great interview with Strauss afterwards.

Did anyone see the BBC coverage from the Barmy Army party?
The guy thought standing in front of the camera, with the party in full view behind him would prevent us from hearing them sing the Mitchell Johnson song biggrin

It's third, and we'll be beating the Indians in the summer...

I couldnt make out most of the Barmy Army songs but just had a mail from an old schoolmate living out there who was at the SCG, he commented that the one that seemed to nark the Aussies the most was "Are you Bangladesh in disguise?"

Why, oh why, oh why is it felt appropriate to wheel out the Prime Minister to comment on winning the series? Who gives a damn what he's got to say?

"Bandwagon", "shameless" & "jumping" springs to mind.

Re above email.

Must admit I sent them a link to a Morning Herald article entitled Howls that? Pup unleashes the raw cry of defeat. Sorry no link, phone doesn't do links, but it is a top rated article on the cricket page. www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket

The Swedes are taking the piss about a sport which takes 5 days and has meal breaks, but I've just reminded them their only real successful sport is women's handball. It's gone quiet over here.

We definitely have suffered a long time! I don't think England could have played any better.....ultimate team performance. India this summer will be very, very interesting.

Going to be very interesting to see what the Aussie selectors do....not entirely obvious. Good to see Clarke saying he regards Test cricket as the pinnacle and going to concentrate on it. Think Australia need to see the likes of Hughes and Khawaja sort out their technique....both have got it but you can't play test cricket waving your bat outside off stump like those two do. I'd be for radical surgery and back the players for a couple of series.

Don't give a toss what the Aussies do. Quite happy to see them struggle for a few years. Would make me smile. Learn some humility.tongue out

How we consolidate our winning ways is much more relevant. We have won against a mediocre at best Aussie team, I want us to keep winning, now that's worth a conversation wink

Its the batting. Taking tons and doubles again run down pie chucking is one thing, but England have shown they are still vulnerable to collapsing. Fair play to Strauss and Flower for recognising that. Its given them something to focus on, an area to concentrate and approve.

I cant see England losing either test series this summer to be honest. They might not win them both, but I cant see them losing. The bowling unit is the strongest English unit I have seen. Sachin v Jimmy in an English summer...yes please smile

If he said nothing he'd be criticised. Be thankful Jonah Brown isn't still PM. He's have sent the team a good luck message before they left and they'd have lost 5-0.

It always happens, it's happened for decades if not centuries, no other reason. The PM is head of government and it's a nice thing for the team representing England to get acknowledgement from representatives of the country, regardless of which party they are from.

Think Martin Samuel from the Mail summed it up best biggrin

Martin Samuel said:
Surveying the English invasion, Australia’s head of security was not a happy man. ‘What is this – the ****ing FA Cup Final?’ he growled. Yes it was, sunshine. And Christmas, New Year and your best mate’s birthday, too. And our team won 10-0, and we all got to go home with the trophy. Or that’s what it felt like, anyway.

He is also a genuine fan, just like John Major. And not a bandwagon riding idiot like Blair or Brown.

Also, he sent messages to the team after they retained the urn last week saying he would look forward to inviting them to a reception when they got back, so fair enough.

Right, the Summer is over, England won everything, six out of six tournaments or series, all formats.

The Squad is annouced, and as crack a crack unit of cricketers as ever left our sceptred isle they are too.

Aussies are bound to get lucky once, and one will be a draw, so England will win 3-1
Jimmy Andersen leading wicket taker
Andrew Strauss over 500 for the series

What say our Antipodeans?
I hope you had some money on 3-1 to England and the Jimmy to be leading wicket taker.

Great thread and despite the fact that I thought you'd jinxed things, great thread title too!
