Anyone else think the upcoming Ashes series is going to be a bit of a disappointment?

I don't see Anderson and co doing so well with the Kookaburra ball in Aussie conditions and the Australian attack looks piss poor too.

Think we'll see lots of high scores and more draws than usual. Both sides will resort to bowling a foot outside off stump with a 7-2 field and bore us to death (much like what the Indian captain has done in the current series).
What you say is true, but I hope that Jimmy is a better bowler than last time he went, but he will find it tough, the question is has he the patience? Swanny is key for us and I think if he has a good series we could well win. Mind you if we don't bat well then forget it. Hope I am not disappointed this time. Not long to wait to find out.

If the Aussies can't even bowl Sachin out, what hope have they got against Strauss and Cook ?
Tendulkar is a class act though. Strauss and Cook ain't. :-)
Sachin, overated. Cook is much the better bat.

Though Anderson is virtually unplayable when he swings it at will both ways in England, he will still be a handful in Oz. The ball will swing in Brisbane and Perth. He is a very good bowler.

Broad may struggle though.

Difficult to call the England attack,

Finn Might end up being the leading wicket taker, if he can get the lengths right, and not try to bowl flat out all the time.

Anderson was carted last time, but I think he has really developed since then and is a more patient bowler now.

Broad, easy to wind up, loses patience, can't see him doing the hard yards under the hot sun, bowls to short, and the Aussies will love to pull him.

Swann, well he might have a field day, especially against the lefties, but will he get the drift with the other ball. Not sure.

If Broad gets the right advice, I think he will be a handful, but I am not sure he can bowl to a plan the same way Anderson can, gets worked up and then loses a bit of control.

Finn could be useful - if he just 'McGraths' it a bit. Aussie cricket and conditions demands patience. Dogged bowling in the channel. If you get impatient and try too much and get it wrong, you will get punished.

Jimmy is a much better bowler than last tour - as you'd expect. He is (or should be) England's key fast bowler.

I will hold back on Swann until I see him bowl in test outside the conditions of English cricket. No doubt hi is a revelation - what with his incredible record of wickets in first overs etc - but it may not suit him much in Oz.

I think it will be a good series.

Swanns big thing is bowling a lefties (great against Aus)

But he doesn't get big turn off the pitch, its the drift of the ball in the air, which is ok with the duke ball, bigger seam etc, and of course in England the wind is often a factor.

I'd hate to see him relying on footmarks etc or being used like Giles to bowl two feet outside leg stump to an 7 - 2 leg field.

However he certainly has a touch of golden arm about him

Well I thought for a moment that North may have redeemed himself following his century in the first innings of the second test, but true to form when the pressure was really on, he failed again.
I still think they don't have the balls to drop him. Clarke again failed as well and as for Hauritz, 2 for 150 odd in India on turning pitches, that says a lot.

Roll on the ashes..................................

Australia have collapsed to 198/7 - this test could yet see a result

Game on. Don't want to be chasing much over 200 though.

Hussey has been poor lately too.

Averaged 80+ for the first three years of his career then it drops to the high 30s for the last 3.

Ponting, Hussey and Katich are all the wrong side of 35 now and this will probably be their last Ashes. Will be interesting to see what kind of batting reserves Australia have after these guys retire.

Clearly some people are entirely immune to irony. FFS the guy has over 14000 test runs.

Is North, Clarke and Hussey the soft underbelly of the Aussie Squad. Poor show today.

Could be close....

No problem,

Aussies look set to get humped today, India need 207 to win and are 86 for 1 wicket, 60 overs remain.

Not looking good, although obviously India would be happy if they had a world class player like Cook still to come in, instead of this Sachin Johnny.

So Ponting has now never won a single test match in India as captain. Add that to never having won a single test series in England (2 losses and the drawn series against Pak).

Class batsman but a bloody dire captain as today's field placements with Hauritz showed.

And 58 x 50s to go with his 49 x 100s for that Sachin fella.

5 an over chasing the win these crappy Indians. Blimey, Australia have been tonked by 7 wickets. Shall we even bother turning up? It almost seems like an embarrassment to go over there and humiliate them infront of their own fans.

Poor Australians.
