Not seen any of the match - but seems over the two tests that the middle order failed to chip in after decent starts by the openers and, crucially, second innings failures.

Looks to me like we were simply outplayed. Their batsmen batted better than ours.

Interesting to see if the selectors stick with the middle order as it is.

I think they will.

Makes the Ashes even more tasty, as our boys will be pretty keen to prove a few things.

Countdown timer set for November 25!

Ponting's decision making problems recently beg the question - could/should/would the selectors consider giving the captaincy to someone else and retaining Ponting purely for his batting skills and consistent short-range fielding accuracy.

Or would that be a recipe for disaster?

Why? Are we playing another series on slow, low wickets?

One of the other England players has broken Jimmy Anderson's rib during a Boxing session at their 'boot camp'

Doubtful for the first couple of Ashes test matches now.

I wonder what we are on sometimes. This is the first time in years that we have a chance over in oz and what do we do. Shoot ourselves in the foot. Broken rib.. Boxing?? Mad. Let's hope we have a replacement ready to step up to the plate......thinks ........

Do cricketers get bored easily? Given the nature of the test game, I'd have thought not but it seems the coaches are always trying to think of "different" training methods rather than sticking to boring (but safe) sessions. Why were they boxing?

I just think we try and complicate things too much. Botham did a piece in the Times yesterday and he was saying the same thing. Common sense gets lost. I am struggling to understand any of this.confused

Agree. I mean the windies of the 70s and 80s or the Aussies of the 90s did not need 'bonding/team building camps' to keep their performances up.

Ffs just go down the pub after a long match or series - job done.

Really hope so cos we will look like complete tossers if he isn't. Not easy for fast bowlers can take some healing. Come on Jimmy.

If he's not fit, will the fans that have already paid thousands to go on the tour be able to indulge in some boxing with Andy Flower?
