I'd always wanted an Esprit Turbo SE since they came out, I'd not driven any sort of Esprit till last year and went to look at an S4 in a dealers, when I had a test drive gear change was hideous and the clutch so heavy I had to move the seat forward to get sufficient leverage. I was assured by the dealer "that they're all like this", which put me off completely. Was he right?

Certainty by modern car standards the clutch is heavy, but you get used to it, after 16 years my left calf muscle is larger than my right. When i jump out my Merc E class & in to the S4 it also feels like the power steering doesn't work, modern cars are just so over assisted & that's what makes an older classic just feel more of a drivers car.

I have got round this on a number of cars. Adding a servo always helps - but it is always worth checking the clutch itself too. My Excel V8 has a Greddy clutch and with a servo and smaller master cylinder it has the lightest clutch imaginable!
