It is currently forecast to be dry at Goodwood from 5pm this evening (Thursday) until the end of Festival on Sunday night - maybe a light shower at 4pm on Saturday. That's the latest forecast.
I have no idea how quickly the car park will dry out if this forecast is accurate.
With the amount of rain thats fallen down this way in the last few days, it won't.I have no idea how quickly the car park will dry out if this forecast is accurate.

I've just spoken to the nice ladies in the ticket office and they are definitely recommending the 4x4 option - Take the Defender!
We are taking a Macan over the RS6 - will be testing out the off road button!
If they take no action between now and tomorrow they will have a lot of unhappy campers that don't have a 4x4 option available. Even simple steps like changing layout of the car parks, chippings down in the worst areas etc will help. The more tractors they use to pull cars out the worse it's going to get.We are taking a Macan over the RS6 - will be testing out the off road button!
Left before midday as I have 3 more days there and didn't want to get stuck. The light brown was 2-4cms deep, the dark brown twice as much. Double decker buses were getting stuck near the entrance / exit which ballsed everyone's hope of getting out in the standard way. In the event itself, as ling as people were sensible, the metal walkways were muddy but ok but the grass is going to get churned up pretty quickly if people continue to walk on it.
The car park south of the golf course is the only one open, so hopefully the other car parks when open tomorrow should fare better.
I hope to get there early and stay to either very late to skip the bedlam of the normal home time or leave early again....
We have been fortunate over the past few years to not have this weather, and it would appear Goidwood were somewhat prepared for it....
....as long as the rain stops tonight to let some of the water sink in and drain away

Goodwood were all over social media pointing people towards Car Park M, and the one south of the golf course is A, so I assume at least two were open. It's binning it down again. No way it'll dry out for any of the weekend. Mind you it wasn't bad on the linger grass but the tracks were getting pretty chopped up already (not helped by those gunning it through there).
And walking boots / wellies are a must. It's muddy and soaked inside too. Trainers are a no no.

Well, as others have said, it's rainy again at the moment. Spectacular thunder and lightning last night mid evening and into the night. The campsite roadway was somewhat churned up this morning, and is now looking like mud soup (although not as bad as the TV pictures suggest Glastonbury is). Campers are still arriving and with the exception of one Motorhome, have all managed to keep moving.
Ground conditions at the event are quite muddy under foot and although we've seen everything footwear-wise from flip flops through high heels to Wellington's, a good pair of walking boots has proved more than adequate so far.

Aargh! Now have the agony of decision prior to Saturday! Do I take the Golf R (great to drive, rubbish in mud) or the Landy (not ideal for a 3 hour drive, epic in mud)?!?
I've ignored our Honda CRV of course as it's just too much of a sensible option :-)
I only have a Golf R. Are they really that bad in mud? Perhaps I'll finally get to try doing some donuts in it. I've ignored our Honda CRV of course as it's just too much of a sensible option :-)

One of the traffic marshalls prob needs to wash his face though
Left car park M about 1hr ago (currently only managed 10 miles away so far westbound ) and had to push my brothers A2 out onto the harder exit road running through the car park. The parts where cars have driven is ok but it's flanked on both sides by about 2ft wide patches of soggy mud and causing just enough of an incline onto the exit road that it can stop you should momentum not be on your side.
The car park was still at least 1/2 full when we left so god knows the conditions by the last car! Getting to the event for the car park will need some serious addressing overnight imho. At least 4 people slipped exiting on just small cambered sections on the golf course.
In the event it was like thick mud soup in areas and just horridly clumpy in other parts. The walk up to the rally arena was terrible, the on site buggy things failed on many occasions to make it up!
Rather confused to why the tractors didn't operate today as the arena was active?! Surely just one doing a loop is better than risking accidents on the steep up hill!?
Weather was wet as we left so can't see it being any better in the car parks or on site by tomorrow and unless we have beaming sunshine from rise to set over the next 3 days then I'd predict fairly moist conditions under foot all weekend. Flipflops would be a brave choice of foot ware!
