This was my first time at the event. I left home at 5.45 and headed down the A3 past the normal turnoff and through the Hindhead tunnel after which I take an immediate left and follow the sat nav to Goodwwod.

And what an epic drive I had this morning. To the guy in the Aston Martin Vantage, thanks, we had a great tussle chasing each other though Sussex on great roads with absolutely no traffic arriving at 7.00am

The event as others had said was very busy, it felt like every 458 and 488 ever sold in the UK was in attendance. Plus it was great to see verity of 570's.

Was it to big? Probably, with certain cars almost impossible to see, but it was fun all the same.

I left at 11.00 and had a another trouble free ride back to south London this time in pursuit of what could not have been a standard Nissan Juke. More high speed but sensible action was had and not a single hold up.

So in conclusion a great morning. I always look to get to Goodwood events for about 7.00 - 7.30 and never have any traffic issues, to those who got stuck in traffic I suggest you give it a try

Have attended every GBC Supercar day & this year it felt like a mini Festival of Speed such were the huddled masses. At times you couldn't get near the cars for bodies & the cars were spread out down the Lavant Straight. To honest there are only so many Ferrari's & McLarens you can gaze at before getting bored.
Very difficult to decide at what point a Supercar is not a supercar & many was the (?Ford owning) oik & his mates deliberately vocal in sneering at cars considered 'not worthy'.
It's a BREAKFAST MEET the clue being it all starts early i.e breakfast time so if you turn up at coffee time don't whinge about not being able to park or long queues for the loos food & drink. Those able to get off their backsides arrive by 7-30 at the latest giving time to see everything & escape from car parks before everybody else.
BUT as alluded to elsewhere there IS an accident waiting to happen. Long time GBCers with good memories will remember the tt in a TVR (what else?) who decided a few doughnuts in the paddock was clever & who promptly got removed by the marshals. TVR's have been treated with suspicion at Goodwood ever since - I know 'cos I used to work there. A supercar with a less than super driver leaving the circuit showing off with their noisy exhausts WILL one day pirouette into the crowds. Let's hope Goodwood & the police take some preventative action as soon as possible.

The issue with cars leaving at full chat could easily be solved by a couple a well placed cops at the exit. I stood around for about 20 mins but got very nervous watching parents and their kids (what were they thinking) standing right by the side of the road.

And to the guy in the V8 powered late 50's pickup truck, yes your burnouts were spectacular, but do us all a favor and keep it to the drag strip, you got dangerous close people to peoples legs. Keep it to the drag strip mate

So if it gets so busy that only 6:30am is a useful arrival time for avoiding queues and getting a bacon butty, will you berate those who arrive at 7:30 for being a bunch of layabout ne'r-do-wells?

I left Weybridge at 8:30. I wouldn't expect plain sailing but neither would I expect the complete st fight I found when I arrived. Something had definitely gone wrong with the parking arrangements too. All we had to do was fill a field up which I've parked in plenty of times before but for some reason that was going at a 1 in 1 out rate and was poorly arranged once we were in.

If I eat before hand because it's the only practical way of enjoying the event, why the fk call it "Breakfast club"? The clue is the name.

Charge for it and make it workable, if need be. I'd have coughed a tenner entry for a more workable experience. As it was, I couldn't wait to get out.

Exactly. It would be the work of a moment to set up some cones on the chicane before the grid. A 300m approach zone where you can nail it, a tight chicane so you can drop a few gears and then nail it out and light the rears if you like and camera phone masturbators with Schmee posters onlookers safely behind concrete. As said, who the hell takes their kids that close to full noise 1st and 2nd gear pulls from amateurs? YouTube is littered with examples of that sort of tttery.

Take a look at the Power cruise example from
Australia for a brilliant model of how his can work very well for everyone's enjoyment and in a full circuit.

Agreed. We left Newlands Corner at 7.40 and got to Goodwood ( well, 1.3 miles from ) at around 8.30-8.40. We parked up at about 10.15. So I guess someone decided to open the gate to another field, which had about 50 cars in when we arrived.

I like going to Goodwood, and yes it's free. But 90 minutes for just over a mile is insane, especially when there is plenty of available parking if Dave the Gate pulled his finger out. Common sense needed by Goodwood staff.

I think the trick is to arrive before 7.30 - eat before 8 and leave before 9.30.
I did and loved every minute of it

Had a really great morning at the event. Was on the track section with my Tuscan and was really amazed how busy it was but as always was a very well organized event by goodwood.

I was surprised to see how many people were at the exit of the circuit, there must have been a lot to see. I think it's all good to give it a noisy acceleration as you leave (what a treat to be able to share the noise!) But some people will always go over the top.

A wonderful event and looking forward to the next ones smile

Exactly this. Straight up the Lavant straight and parked with not single wait and onto the circuit but 07:40.

Busiest I have ever seen it and I have been a regular since it first started up.

Hi DamienmkV -

I agree - 2 miles in about an hour was a joke, trying to buy food was also a test of patience
I will be arriving earlier next time, or I have an idea _ i will stay down overnight - have a good sleep and then drive down the hill instead :-)

Didn't see you at Newlands - What were you driving?

Was a bit disappointed today. Went to the same meet last year and it was so much better.
Left home and was on target to arrive at the same time as last year but where last year I drove straight into the car park, today we took 90-100 mins to do the last 1.5 miles which meant that by the time we parked up and got in half the good stuff had gone.
Started with a walk up and down the cars parked on track. Went to get some food ( it's a breakfast meet, it's a 4hr round trip plus time there so yes I want to eat) and the Goodwood wagon had run out of sausages frown boooo. By the time I had managed that the paddock and in circuit car park had emptied so missed anything that might have been good there.
Echo the comments of others that the cars on show need to be controlled a bit more, there are only so many GT3 RS, Astons, GTRs I need to see and If being snobby then the Evos, Subaru, mini and few other things in there I really wouldnt count as supercars.
Also think it's getting to be a victim of its own success. It's a lovely venue but as others have said, overcrowding and not enough services made it a bit miserable today.
You can't just say get there earlier then as if everyone does then it winds up that you have to leave home at 5am and it's still too busy.
Yes I know it's a "free" event but it's £60 in fuel and £10 in food so not a cheap trip for me so would like it to be a nice experience, would be happy to pre register and or pay £5/10 if it meant fixed visitor numbers and a guaranteed good morning out.

Things like this do seem to be getting more popular. I often go to the Queens Square breakfast meets in Bristol and as with Goodwood if you are not there by 7.30-8 you may as well forget it. They have started hosting events at Castle Combe now to accommodate more attendees.

You're not being snobbish, you're simply stating a fact.

Personally I didn't have any trouble getting in or out and ended up not having breakfast as I was too lazy to queue. That said, I am aware that it is buying the breakfast etc. that is really paying for the event to happen at all.

To be fair to Goodwood, it must be hard with things like this to plan for how many people will show up. You could lay on a lot more catering only for it to be pouring with rain and no-one shows up. A bit strange that they let the parking fill up though when they have had the next field open in the past. That certainly can't have helped the traffic situation when there were cars with nowhere to park.

Well got they at 7.30 just too many people.
Not sure if it is worth going as it has just gone mad, left my supercar at home not sure I would bring it!!!! sorry to say.

Goodwood may have to have a rethink on this type of event.

As you could not see the cars.

I had noticed that the traffic situation was much better last year after the intro of the pre-registration system. I suspect that they became overwhelmed with the numbers yesterday and just let anyone in.

I will probably give the supercar one a miss next year, but am looking forward to the rest of this year's Breakfast Clubs.

I think you really need to be there by 8am at the latest. We arrived in convoy at about 7.30am and had no trouble at all parking. We had all met up at 6.15am and enjoyed a well planned hoon across Hampshire and West Sussex. Thanks Notax for a well organised morning of fun! i look forward to the next onedrivingwoohoo
This is the rub of it - the supercar breakfast club is the most popular one, and has been for some years. As with all Goodwood events you need to get there early and leave early or late to avoid sitting in queues - that's just the reality of the approach roads which cannot cope with the volume of traffic. There is also a fair amount of incompetence shown by attendees who seem incapable of parking properly without instruction - it shouldn't be that hard if everyone just gets on with it!

It must be impossible for Goodwood as it is so weather dependent. I think it needs to be a ticketed event, even if the tickets are free. I would also suggest that cars with passes be given "early doors" access as part of the problem is manoeuvring cars onto the grid with so many people about.
