I had a great morning but did get there early knowing how popular this event is.

This was approx. 7.15am...

And this was approx. 7.30am...

It was ridiculous! Definitely now a victim of its own success. I couldn't leave any earlier than I did... I didn't finish work till two in the morning so getting up at half six I thought I'd actually done quite well. Still, by the time I'd chivvied the kids into motion we were doomed... spent almost exactly an hour getting in from the moment we joined the queue on Stane Street to parking up. A distance of 1.4 miles. Literally could have walked it faster.

Add to that the previously-reiterated complaints of just plain stupid queues for food... which still managed to relieve me of about forty quid for four bacon rolls and two teas... and the fact that you simply can't get within plain sight of any of the interesting car (and forget about taking any worthwhile photos) yet it easy to see forty indentical Astons/Audis/Datsuns within fifty paces and it's just not fun any more. The irritation/enjoyment ratio has slipped too far out of balance and I won't be bothering again.

As members of GRRC and attendees of pretty much all the events for time immemorial, that makes me a bit sad but its simply emblematic of Goodwood's apparent race to the bottom that's been happening for a few years now

This is the rub of it - the supercar breakfast club is the most popular one, and has been for some years. As with all Goodwood events you need to get there early and leave early or late to avoid sitting in queues - that's just the reality of the approach roads which cannot cope with the volume of traffic. There is also a fair amount of incompetence shown by attendees who seem incapable of parking properly without instruction - it shouldn't be that hard if everyone just gets on with it!

It must be impossible for Goodwood as it is so weather dependent. I think it needs to be a ticketed event, even if the tickets are free. I would also suggest that cars with passes be given "early doors" access as part of the problem is manoeuvring cars onto the grid with so many people about.

A few pics on this link:

That photo you have taken of the P1LM where it shows the whole back of the car is almost identical to one I took at the same time. You must have been standing next to me!

Great to see your CGT and two others as well!
I missed the 2 others , pity we couldn't park together . I had a nice morning , needing out with carrera gt fans I told them some of the stuff I've picked up over the years at the factory.

When I left I had multiple shmee type creatures asking me to "rev it" , "slide it" and "give it some", I politely declined but was amazed at the amount of poeple that booted their cars up the road (a road lined with parents and children) and revved them to redline within seconds of a cold start !

I know the traffic etc is a pain. But the owners of those Aston's/Audis/Datsuns have still made the effort to bring their cars (at not many miles-to-the-gallon) for the publics entertainment. so a tad unfair to criticise them for being there

In no way am I criticising them for being there. I'm just saying from my own personal viewpoint it's a bit dull to see ranks of the same make and model. I would much prefer to see a greater range of old and modern rather than just what could be a Knightsbridge dealer forecourt. And I love a nice GTR35 as much as the next man, but supercar? Nope, not in a million years, just a very accomplished coupe. Just like to point out that I managed to get there in a car that mine was the only example of in the entire place, at around 12 MPG, after four hours sleep and everyone who saw my car gushed about how nice it was to see one. Does that mean I'm the most entitled person in the place by the above argument? I think not.... any more than it makes my car a supercar or me any more valid by attendance than anyone else

Only difference is, I'm st and I know I am. I don't need a YouTube channel to validate my existence hehe And it was still a great morning out (don't remember ever seeing double figures of F40s in the same place at the same time before) just marred by the downsides that are increasingly overwhelming the plus side

Maybe they do need to start charging an entry fee (even if just a fiver for adults with kids free) and recycle that into more parking people?

As has been said, it's got to a point where it's a victim of it's own success. Goodwood now promote all their events, including Breakfast Club via emails, social media etc and given that it's a free to enter event, it's bound to be popular as a morning out.

Supercar Sunday is always the biggest of the year, so numbers were bound to be big this time, given it's the first BC of the year and the sun was out.

I got there just before 7am, entered via the New Road gate and parked up on the circuit. I didn't leave until 11:45 as there were still loads of people walking about and the road outside was still full of people lined up watching and filming the cars leave.

I think Goodwood do a great job in putting these events on. They've certainly grown since I started going all those years ago.

A lot of me wanted to take everyone's advice & get to Goodwood early on Sunday. But I had two issues.

No.1, I was thinking of booking a B&B to stay in the night before (which maybe is what I'll do for all future breakfast club meets), but had a small party which meant I couldn't.

No.2, The only person who could take me (I still haven't got a drivers licence so need trains or a driver to take me there) couldn't be bothered to pick me up from my house in Christchurch Dorset, till 7:15am. Which hurt! Even before leaving. When I got close to the event, we had to wait approx. 30-40 minutes to get in & felt kind of cheated in a way that had I done what I wanted to do, I'd have arrived long before 8:45am!

Never mind, when I eventually did get in, I started to enjoy it despite the population of a small country also being there & thus any pics I took I had to wait about a minute (as everyone's said) to take. I can't remember the amount of times I said "excuse me" or "sorry" to everyone but lost count on 200.

Still it was overall a very enjoyable morning & I never been so far up the track (even though some had already left because I was late) & having heard rumors of 950-1000 cars there, I certainly believed them!

I also bumped into & chatted to a lot people. Spotters, the odd owner & of course, the man who divides opinion on PH more then anyone else. Tim, AKA Scensorede. (censured for the haters) Truth be told, he & his gang were very nice, welcoming people & were very happy that I stayed with them long after everyone else had left so that they could take pics of his cars, AKA the Scensoredemobiles.

In the end we all left at the same time, 2:30pm. By which time, the roads were back to normal. As for me? I had a huge smile on my face having loved pretty much every minute of the 5 or so hours I managed to stay at Goodwood.

Sorry for the long, long post & pics will be in the photos thread.

Arrived at 06:45 waived straight into the paddock and parked in my choice of garage. Coffee with no queues and a bacon butty followed, no queues! By 09:30 walked the full track up onto the Lavant straight, never seen it this busy in all my years of going. I left early at about 11:30 due to commitments but that's the thing it's a breakfast club, not 11s or lunch club. I've done loads of these now and always follow this timing and guess what, I've never had to queue in or out.

It is becoming a victim of its own success and I do think Goodwood Management need to look at how they take this awesome event forward. Let's not forget whilst queuing for an hour to get in it's totally free. Most attractions in the UK are a minimum of £20 per head and where else can you ever see such a fantastic collection of Supercars all in one place at such a famous motorsport venue. We should count ourselves lucky to still have this amazing event.

Out of interest, what is it that you like so much about that photo? To me it is out of focus and because there's no obvious movement it's hard to tell if the Porsche is simply driving out of the pits (or recovering from the side of the track) or in a tail slide. Just curios.

Hmmm. Maybe my mind has filled in those blanks the way I want to see them I suppose scratchchin

For me: It's sunny. There is a classic car in front with two people in it, which warms me. It looks like Spa(?). It's an iconic car. It's going sideways. That's a pretty good base I think.

ETA: to my eye, the car's attitude makes it quite obvious it's in a slide. I think the rear left looks noticeably squatter, as one clue.

You are correct , It was a great , sunny day at spa and the old girl was sliding all over the place to applause from the marshals . I found the picture of me by accident in this very forum years ago . I e mailed the photographer for a high Rez but he never got back to me . It's one of my favourite photos , it was unplanned , summed up those 2 days perfectly and brings back great memories
