...when the key is in the ignition of my 2014 981 Cayman the phone has no data connection.
Take the key out and the data connection comes back.
Anyone?

Are you using SAP? (Sim Access Profile) If so, try disabling it.

Having just purchased a 981 Cayman I've noticed the same thing with losing data on my phone whilst connected via Bluetooth.

My google skills are letting me down at the moment. Any idea how to disable SIM Access Profile?

My phone is Google Pixel XL incidentally.

Thanks. Is this to be disabled in the phone or the car?

I resolved this by re-pairing and when prompted if I wanted to give PCM permissions to my messages I selected no.

Might be a coincidence but I haven't had an issue again since.

I'll give it a go. Thanks!

The rsap setting is in the PCM Bluetooth settings. It's only there if you have the enhanced Bluetooth module. Only works with certain phones of which the s7 is one. Improves reception and allows PCM to do text messages but disables data and email support.

Yes, the car gets texts but keeps them, i.e. they don't show on the phone too, which is rather annoying.
I will see if I can disable.

Rsap is enabled if car keeps texts. Disable it and you will have data but lose the benefits I mentioned above.

Why not have ALL the benefits?
Ah... it's a Porsche!

Kinda true, the last VW Rsap had 4g support to give better Data connection by sharing it back over WiFi. The 718 solution of phone box and 2 sim is a bodge because Apple don't support Rsap.
