I've been to the Revival a couple of times, but only once to FoS on the Saturday in 2013.

I set off early, began following all the official signs directing me to Goodwood, but at 7:30am, I remember the horror of hitting the end of the stationary queue for Goodwood, and realising we were about 6-7 miles away!

I thought 'this is insane' and had a look at the map, turned off and took at completely direct route though Chicester, ignored about 10 'Road closed' signs, zipped though a load of country lanes and by some miracle came out right by the car park entrance.

While we parked and wandering around by 8:30, I was getting reports from other people that it was taking hours to drive the last few miles and get parked.

What's it like these days?

Thinking of going this year on the Saturday.

Thanks

It is still the same, get there early and leave very late is the only answer.

How early is early?

What time would you recommend?

Thanks for the info chaps.

Looks like a good early start is in order.

I dislike getting up early, but I dislike sitting wasting the day in a queue more!

For the 14 years I've been going I always arrive bang on car park opening time (I come through Chichester) and have always driven straight in.

Yes it means a 4am start but it's absolutely worth it, the second bonus is that I can then comfortably do all the main paddocks before the hill action has started.

I usually leave around 4pm and other than the usual traffic in Chichester (particuarly on the Friday) it's absolutely fine getting away too.

First timer Goodwood FOS this year! And first time driving in England. Staying in Clanfield.
Q: Best route to avoid traffic (as much as possible)?
Up A3 thru Petersfield then down thru South Harding, or down thru Chichester via A3 and A27? Any suggestions?

Thank you for any advice!

I always approach from the North on the A285, anticipate arriving around 7.30/8.0, then park in the carpark half way up the hill. It worked again perfectly last year and I didn't queue at all. The trick really is to arrive early and leave late, but with such a great day out why would one do otherwise?

Please don't tell anyone... wink

The Petersfield / Harting route would normally be best (it's a great drive) but on FoS and Revival weekends the approach roads to Goodwood from Lavant are closed.

Instead, take the A272 from Petersfield to Midhurst and come down on the A286.

Bit of a thread hijack by 1st timer at FOS, but I'm driving down from Leicester on Sat morning for the weekend. We have hotel booked in centre of Chichester which has some parking apparently.

What's my best bet, set off early and just head straight to Goodwood and park there, or head to hotel car park and get a taxi out to Goodwood?

Can you leave your car overnight in Goodwood car parks, as I'm planning to have a beer or two during the day on Saturday so won't be driving back to hotel on Sat evening?

Google maps shows me coming in via M3 -> A27 but it sounds like the A27 is best avoided? Am I better getting off the M3 around Guildford and then heading down A283 ->285?

Thanks.

what time are you leaving Leicester ?

i'd go straight to goodwood via guildford, midhurst etc...

id have a beer early on when you arrive, and stay late until closing... then you can drive back to hotel!
