So no dress code then except to WEAR WARM CLOTHING!!!
That's kinda my point though, why mention anything at all if it's entirely impractical to even consider it at that time of year? Wax jackets and tweed, 'everyone asked to respect our style guide' etc, hardly inviting to any one who has no idea that it's widely ignored. I remember 73MM I was genuinely nervous about what I should wear and whether I'd be allowed access to everything simply because my wet/cold weather gear is functional rather than Goodwood's strange idea of what is deemed stylish.
It doesn't help that for Fellowship members at least, anything approaching useful information is behind another layer of exclusivity. We literally had to rely on people reposting stuff on this very forum last year to have any idea what was going on with respect to the weather situation.
So I have only just joined the GRRC fellowship as never been amd since retiring early and loving cars, although I lack an encycopedic knowledge of vehicles or drivers, i like motor racing in all its forms and Goodwood seemed to be one of the many places you HAVE to visit.
I am off to the MM in April so was interested in this thread. These days despite the history businesses and events have to have a USP (unique selling point) in this case they have identified a market and have focused on the experience being a unique one for their market therefore as far as i’m concerned either go with it or don’t. I’m sure the duke is well heeled to say the least but would also maintain the costs for running these events, filming, streaming etc has to be supported.
The website states below with regards to dress code, so it seems to me that other than not wearing jeans and trainers pretty much anything else is fine. So trousers, shoes or boots, polo shirt and warm coat seems pretty normal and hard;y a stretch for anyone to manage!! I can’t say I’ll be going out to buy tweed just for the sake of a day out at Goodwood though!
Country casual
The Members' Meeting is intended to be relaxed and informal, so layer up those country tweeds, scarves and boots to keep you warm.
In a nutshell, it’s all about layers of clothing for warmth and comfort, while maintaining a sense of country style. You needn’t be dressed up to the nines in shirt, tie and blazer – or a formal dress for the ladies – as we welcome more casual sartorial choices at the Members’ Meeting but politely ask to refrain from wearing denim and trainers.
However, if you want to break out your tweeds for the weekend, go right ahead. It is Goodwood after all.
Practical footwear is strongly recommended as the car parks are in the surrounding fields.

Its annoying that everyone thinks jeans and trainers are now acceptable.
The first MM after the break was great as people were abiding by the rules but I think they limited ticket sales to the general public.
Now it seems every bloke is wearing jeans / ripped jeans and Nike trainers. Spoils part of the attraction for me and I think they should enforce the dress code on the gates.
You have beautiful classic cars in the paddock and your photo is ruined by some geezer in his trackies and trainers. As the MM is becoming popular its slowly killing the atmosphere of a small time niche event. I would prefer it stayed as the baby brother to the revival.
As for the TV stream complaints, Goodwood have been stopping their uploads to youtube of 'full races' over the last few years - For both the revival and MM. Occasionally someone else uploads something, but it usually gets taken down within a few days. We could all see this move coming.

Well said that man - if people don't want to join in with what is one of the World's premier motoring events, don't bother fking coming. The first MM after the break was great as people were abiding by the rules but I think they limited ticket sales to the general public.

Not difficult is it?
The change in attitude is all to do with people thinking they're entitled to behave just how they feel, fk the rules, the chip on my shoulder won't allow me to just join in with the Hooray Henrys [sic] so fk you type of thing.
Very sad attitude imo
And as for the attitude that GW are depriving people who don't contribute to the coffers to help get these World class events running at all, give yer heads a shake man, do you know how many millions it costs to put these on? Idiots.

You always get problems when rules aren't sufficiently clear and they aren't enforced. I haven't attended a MM yet but I imagine the weather has made it necessary to wrap up warm and somewhat trumped any dress code. In the case of the Revival I'd quite like to see period dress made compulsory. It would remove any arguments and since attendees overwhelmingly dress up anyway I don't believe it would affect profits. People who don't make the effort at the Revival do look out of place, a bit like someone going to a fancy dress party in normal clothes. I can't see the problem with making the effort but I know there are people like a friend of mine who would never do fancy dress and therefore will never go to the Revival with me.
I get more concerned about the Festival. Shirtless blokes with beer guts and bad tattoos we can definitely do without. Even more so shirtless women with the same! On a more serious note, I think Goodwood is very happy to be seen as the top of the pile and anything but cheap. As has been said, if you want cheaper, plenty of alternatives exist.

As for the Revival Paddock dress code...shirt, tie, jacket. Really? That is onerous??! Really?? Genuinely here chaps, seriously absolutely genuinely, some of you are saying that is onerous? No offence folks, but knock it off.
<clip> I find that Goodwood's mandatory code at the Revival (for paddock ) ridiculous and not even remotely related to the era they are pretending to recreate... Edited by RichB on Thursday 14th March 18:46
Er, the event is now more exclusive, so it doesn't really make sense that it's getting worse. I attended on general sale tickets at the 73MM, but that option doesn't exist any more. It's also, to my knowledge, not getting busier, as they aren't filling the remaining few thousand spaces or whatever with general sale tickets. If they can't sell them to Members and Fellows that's it.
At least as far as last year goes I think it would be difficult to moan about people not following the 'style guide', wind chill was - 9 and some of us actually like to spend most of the weekend out around the back of the circuit, not worrying about spoiling someone's paddock photos in a bright Helly Hansen jacket.

I managed to not totally blow out the dress code at last years' MM despite the snow... at least, I didn't have to resort to North Face style modern stuff. Just a trenchcoat. And about eight layers Fortunately the snow stopped before it soaked through

If you look in the reflection in the bumper you can see the fencepost that put the bloody great dent into it when the brakes worked rather better than the tyres

At the MM, really? I've just looked through my photos from 73MM onwards and I'm really not seeing it. Plenty of bright, heavy winter clothes last year sure, but I think that's more than acceptable given the conditions. Should people go out and buy a dull winter coat or darker wellies that fit an imposed dress code for fear of being turned away at an event where it's going to be blizzard conditions and -6 windchill? I've already spent £39 just to be able spend another £120 to buy a ticket (which I'm happy to do) without needing to buy a new wardrobe for a one-off event, at a time of year that can and does attract some pretty awful conditions. Particularly so as I'm unlikely to even bump into 70% of the crowd during the weekend. The majority of the circuit itself is already quiet enough at the MM without putting undue practical/financial barriers in front of those who do want to spend the weekend out at St Mary's, Lavant etc. You have beautiful classic cars in the paddock and your photo is ruined by some geezer in his trackies and trainers. Presumably people walking through the paddock with camping chairs to head out around the circuit also ruin your photos? Ban them.
The event is exclusive (more so than the Revival or indeed any other motorsport event in the UK that I'm aware) by way of limiting ticket sales to Members and Fellows only. I'm not aware of any outdoor events around this time of year that enforce a dress code (i.e. Cheltenham doesn't) simply because it's entirely impractical to do so in this country.
The point seems to have been missed that there is no requirement to wear period clothing at MM, that applies to the Revival. Goodwood's own website says this.
"As with any exclusive club, the Members’ Meeting is intended to be stylish and relaxed – an informal yet smart event, with everyone asked to respect our style guide. It is a great excuse for both ladies and gentlemen to wear their smartest countryside attire, and when the weather can’t make up its mind, a wax jacket with tweed accessories wouldn’t go amiss, not forgetting an umbrella.
Please remember that it can get very chilly in the Spring, so we recommend bringing lots of layers, and thermals if the forecast is looking cold. Layers can be stored in our lockers available at the event.
Parking is on grass so suitable footwear is recommended, including wellingtons when wet."
Seems entirely reasonable to expect your guests to dress appropriately.
