Never get this logic. It’s a pricy and not frequent event you stay to the end.
Totally agree but sadly come 1:30pm my 9 year old decided to give up and both being rather damp I decided he had done pretty well to be honest.

We had been optimistic looking at the weather forecast when we left home at 5:45am, showers were meant to pass to sunny/cloudy by about 10am and we both had shorts and a t-shirts on......that never happened and the weather just continued to be damp and nasty. By 1:30pm and he was cold and I couldn't see any clearer weather when we decided to go.

On a more positive note the BMW Mtown was a good vantage point albeit the staff were checking how long you had been up on the balcony and turfed some off who were making it a free 'all day grandstand'.

3rd visit to FoS and went Sunday, such a shame the weather was atrocious as it ruined a lot of what I was expecting. The F1 cars doing a few doughnuts and then tippy toeing up the hill, Supercars got bumped from 10:45 until 6pm etc. Food was pretty expensive as always, but to be expected. I went with my 7 year old and he was fed up with the lack of track action and being soaked through we left at 3pm (arrived around 8am) - previous two times it was sunny and have to say the weather does have a huge impact on the enjoyment factor.

Can I also suggest that whilst I admire and appreciate everything Schumacher has done in the last 50 years 1:15 minutes was far too long for the presentation and from where I was the large TV screen was out of service and I had no idea what on earth was happening................that probably didn't help little man's attitude to stay, he didn't go there to see no cars whizzing by for well over an hour.

A great tribute but about 45 minutes too long and to walk the cars down in front of the house and then walk the cars back again seemed to take forever yes

Really enjoyed it. The fact you can get right close to cars in the paddock is what makes the day for me.
Yes it rained and i also thought it was going to be dry but i have never been a shorts person so i was suitably dressed for typical English drizzle.
What makes me laugh though was the price of food. Captured market and all that but £9.30 for a cheeseburger which in the description sounded all very nice but was actually basic ingredients watching someones being made i went hungry and made myself a curry on my return home.

Also my first FoS this weekend. And a surprise visit to add to that.

Bit of context, my better half is 40 weeks pregnant (baby was due on Friday), we didn't get tickets for FoS for obvious reasons. No sign of baby Friday. Saturday morning I get woken up by the other half to say shes nipping out – comes back an hour later with two FoS tickets and tell's me to get out of bed cause we're going to GW! What an angel.

We took it slow for obvious reasons, lots of stopping to rest in the shade. But saw a large chunk of the festival and the atmosphere was fantastic. By chance we came back down from the rally stage and decided to catch some hill climb action, happened to be the shoot out qualifiers and saw Romain Dumas' record breaking climb in the ID R – 39.9sec!

Shame he couldn't do the same on Sunday for the finals.

All-in-all, great day had, and I'm still picking dust out of my ears…

Yes this segment broke the camels back for us. Standing there in the pouring rain for over an hour whilst a bunch of VIPs dawdled along the track and interviews done. No one seemed at all interested in seeing the stationary cars sat on the track and the interviews could have been done off track easily as they didn't actually need it.

Anyway our 7 year old started saying he was bored, he was right, we all were. The crowd looked quite fed up!

Yesterday was my first time at FOS.

Great time had by both me and my 7 year old son even if it did start off cold and wet. Got up close to some great cars new and old as well as some some familiar faces of the automotive and sporting world.

Got to see Ricciardo which made my boy's day as well as jumping in and out of various cars on the manufacturers stands. He has expensive taste it appears and wants a collection of supercars when he's older.

I walked for miles and still didn't do everything, next year I will go for two days to be able to experience a lot more on offer.

Here in the UK I'd say we're very lucky to have such an amazing event put on and for me it's less than 40 miles from home.

We went on the Saturday so had different weather problems in as much it seemed to take forever to open the track crossings. We got stuck in front of the house while Aston Martin VIPs and cars formed up for their moment, I saw a few small kids lose it waiting which in turn frazzled their parents. 20 minutes stood waiting while some MMTS VIP made his way through tested everybody's patience.
Other than that it was a great show with lots of stuff to see, but as said elsewhere the manufacturers stands were squarely aimed at kids, a seat and a drink would have been better received than a bloody toboggan!
I'll go again

A seat and a drink were available at the Red Box tools stand - they were running a very special offer - free drinks and nibbles all weekend for the purchase of a £6 t shirt. Drinks were Heineken 330ml. Strongbow 500ml or a spirit and mixer (softs also available). I got my money's worth on the Friday alone!
I'll go again wink

I went Friday this year and had a great day as usual. It’s the one car event of the year that I don’t want to miss, it’s always excellent.

Sunday last year was way busier than Friday this year, which is understandable. Still came away thinking ‘1 day just isn’t enough!’

We got round most of it, minus the rally stage and we didn’t watch too much of the hillclimb, although I managed to watch the live stream Saturday/Sunday for a few hours so seen most stuff going up.

Best bit - Oliver Solberg in his polo, looked and sounded mental.
Worst bit - Being force fed electric vehicles... the IDr is a feat of engineering and super interesting, but watching historic F1 cars blast up the hill, followed by a dull as dishwater electric Aston Martin and Jaguar SUV was pretty bad. Felt like I was watching the end of motorsport as we know it.

Ref the electric cars...when the Jaguar left the start line it was just after the F1 cars and where i was you heard in the crowd a discernible "Meh" , cameras were lowered and discussion on how to get across the track started!

You could have been sitting next to me! Exactly the same.. groups of people started talking amongst themselves, a few laughs and scoffs at the silence of the EVs. In fact, we were sat in the grandstand nearest the start line and actually missed a couple, 0 theatre and noise as they set off up the hill.

I’m an electrical engineer so perhaps I should be encouraging all this but as yet, mainstream, fully electric vehicles do absolutely nothing for me I’m afraid.

Yes as fast as EVs are, its much more interesting to see and hear a car do 100mph down the main straight than watch an EV silently go past at 130mph. We had that exact meh moment a few times, EV goes past in silence, everyone gasps as the Nascar roars past next.

I think they were running 20 mins or so ahead (!!) of schedule... (so maybe they took their time a bit) also, there was some errr... "faffing" with the cherry picker for the photo op with the cars on the track which may have delayed thing slightly...

Forgot to mention previously, we were a man down during the day on Saturday. One of our group decided he didn't want to join in with the purchase of tickets via the box office and went his own way using Ebay. rolleyes

Predictably, his ticket made the machines-that-go-beep go squawk and he was refused entry due to the ticket being previously cancelled and refunded to the original purchaser.
Caring bunch that we are, we stifled our laughter until he was out of earshot - but not out of contact via WhatsApp. His stupidity was rewarded with numerous photos during the day with a similar theme throughout:

Could not agree more, electric cars are not suited to being in a spectator sport

For the second F1 run we were stood opposite the holding paddock, that was great as you saw them all going down to the start line, including some drivers giving it a bootful and drifting round the bend onto the track. You then got to see them full bore up the hill, surprising how much they moved around under braking.

Shame about the weather on Sunday. Had a mate who did Friday and Sunday and he said the rain took some of the enthusiasm out of it.

Despite not having kids I thought it was a great idea that the likes of Ford and VW catered to them.

I think the rain in Sunday surprised everyone.

We, along with with several other manufacturers, were staying at Butlins in Bognor and went out for a Thai meal in the seafront in the Saturday evening - it was a lovely mild evening as we returned at about 10:30, so a real shock to open my curtains at 0540 to see rain.

Got to the stand just after seven, and it was really grotty. Nevertheless, by 0730 the queue for the F-TYPE drifting was beyond the edge of the stand - I love that people are so keen to have a go! Spoke to a lot of visitors who had been caught out by the weather - we sold a lot of umbrellas and jackets biggrin

It was a shame after three gorgeous days, but didn’t seem to dampen people’s spirits too much!

It’s a fabulous event.

My second time attending FOS, first time camping at the event. I took a few buddies who'd never been before and we all had an awesome time.

The event got gradually busier over the weekend, no surprises, but the Thursday and Friday were excellent - got to see all the paddocks and close up stuff then spent Saturday in the Rally Stage nursing some cold beers and staying out of the heat. The GAS arena had got much bigger and was a great place to hangout in the shade as well near a good bar. There also seemed to be viewing platforms which weren't on the hill last time I was there - which meant that by the off road arena you could see the hill, a hairpin bend on the rally and also the off road arena.

You could complain about the prices of food and beer but it wouldn't do you much good as it is what it is - any event where you're enclosed the prices go up but if you were wise the food was decently portioned and the beer cold.

One thing we all agreed on was how great the event was - nowhere (as far as I'm aware) could you find anything the same, with the access and range of cars, bikes etc, please correct me if I'm wrong I'd love an excuse to get there. It's so nice to see an event that's growing and getting better - the broader the appeal the longer it will run. Business is hard in the automtive industry I'm sure but to see such a fantastic even continuing to thrive is brilliant as a petrolhead. For the rest of the year I'll be hanging out at as many local hillclimbs as I can - it's a fantastic sport and one I hope to get involved in when my time allows.
