Which aircraft was it supposed to be?
The Dakota.
There are at least three UK based C-47/Dakota aircraft in World War 2 colours. I was a wondering if it was one of these. Also, people jump out of other aircraft too.

Photo on Goodwood's site shows it was ‘Drag Em Oot’

Starting to doubt myself about the planned drop as I couldn't find anything in writing about it. I am certain I only learned of it from the Thursday onwards.

However, historicracingnews.com had the following published back in June.

The focal point for Goodwood’s D-Day commemorations will fall on the Goodwood Revival on September 13th-15th. The event is expected to feature appearances by campaign veterans and examples of vehicles and hardware from the landings, while a Douglas C-47 Skytrain will conduct a poppy drop and parachute drop in honour of those who fought to free Europe from tyranny.

Yeh, I remember reading that in a press release from Goodwood... I'm sure a lot of plans can change though in a few months...

Fortunately I took a screenshot from the Goodwood app on Sunday.

At least that confirms I wasn't going mad.
So, it was current on the app on Sunday when it already hadn't happened on the Saturday.

I would have thought the landing area for parachutists would have been a bit restricted due to the number of visiting aircraft and crowds all around the perimeter of the airfield.

They could easily have landed them on the bit between the central paddocks and Lavant Bank.

You should write to Goodwood with your expert advice. I'm sure they'd find a good use for it and they may offer you a place on next year's planning committee.

Sounds like they need it.
I guess the airfield didn't get any smaller between the time they planned the drop, and the time it should have happened.

You make an astute observation there. Why don't you write to Goodwood and ask them why the plans changed? You're likely to get an explanation and even if it's one you don't like, you will know.

ttty response - really necessary?

Have seen parachute drops into considerably smaller spaces...

Pointless opinion - really necessary?

There is clearly something wrong with people who would rather criticise a decision and imply it was incorrect and they know better than simply find out the reason from the decision maker...

The aircraft looked fantastic in the sun, anyway.

It may have thrilled many but few within the professional aviation community were impressed & it undermined whatever credibility he had earned as a Red Arrows leader etc.
Well, I've known many (and still know a few) in that community in the past 35 years and never have I heard one say that then or since.
I thought it was a well known fact that the spitfire low pass up the start finish straight was pre arranged between His then Lordship and Hanna.

If the ill informed can be bothered rather than spout ste, a quick search in the Goodwood video archives will show the Duke talking about it.

If you went to any or all of the events at Goodwood this year, I'd strongly recommend you follow this link. Stunning photography. I usually wave an iphone camera around, but my goodness - I really want to learn how to do this properly. Just amazing.

I certainly wish they were mine (apologies if that wasn't clear!!). They were all the work of the previous poster - I thought they were just fantastic.
