The fact is I’ve got my MM tickets but by May I expect to only have had my first vaccination and Mrs Wombat, being younger, probably won’t have had that. On a selfish basis I would thus just prefer to roll over to 2022 but if it does go ahead I expect I will sell the tickets.

Key point for me. I have a 78MM ticket, but the way things are going I would rather that roll over to next year.

I spent 9 days in ITU last year with Covid and was not mixing with people, nor the commonly imagined type or age to suffer from it.
No way will I be going to an event the (normal) size of FoS or Revival this year even if it were to run.
Can't risk the chance of bringing anything back to the rest of the household who are shielding.

Difficult for Goodwood, but I assume they are topping up the bank account by selling all available tickets and will then announce a delay.
They are also selling the Memberships - I wonder what the renewal rate was this year compared to last year.
Yesterday’s announcements from Boris, about not returning to the tier system and the timing of the lifting of even the school’s restrictions do kind of point to the likelihood of another postponement of ( at least ) the MM. It is what it is, there are bigger fish to fry.

As far as I can tell, 78MM is 100% off limits now.

I know we all expected it, but in more promising news FoS seems like it could be possible.

Although he stated review number 4 will be to discuss pilot large scale events so may still not happen for a June/July. I expect FOS to be off as I doubt it will not be a smooth running to the timeline and the FOS build would start before restrictions are lifted.

It definitely looks like a double rollover for the MM. I’d best get some revival tickets ordered ASAP.

... also don't forget all the overseas people bringing cars over etc etc... might be travel restrictions for a while...

Very good point. I also doubt manufacturers will be prepared to invest in an event like FOS in 2021.

Goodwood @17:34 says

Following the Prime Minister’s statement earlier today, we are currently reviewing the impact this has on the date of the 78th Members’ Meeting. We are working through the various options and will be in touch once again to let you know our decision as soon as possible.

Please be assured that your safety and well-being are paramount, and we can’t wait to welcome you back to Goodwood as soon as it is safe to do so.

I would have hoped that they just copied and pasted Plan B into an email and message all competitors and members and that they’ve been planning for this outcome for the last year, however that statement makes me suspect maybe they haven’t…….

I can’t see it happening now. Even if they pushed it back seven days you’d be hugely restricted on numbers so in theory it wouldn’t be economically viable. Sadly it looks like two years on the bounce for the MM.

It's a definite no in the date they currently have:

No earlier than 17th May...

Performances and large events can resume, with some limits. For indoor events they can be at half capacity or 1,000 people, and outdoors they can be at half capacity or 4,000 people - whichever is lower. For large venues (at least 40,000 capacity) up to 10,000 will be allowed to attend

Even if they moved it a week they'd be limited to 10,000 (and May 17th is far from certain anyway), which correct me if I'm wrong, is less than half of the tickets already sold. Add to that the restrictions on international travel and it's a complete non-starter.

Unfortunately they make far more money I think from the FOS than MM, which means they would want to ensure the FOS went ahead rather than MM. I would hugely prefer the MM to run instead of the FOS in the summer.

They've just 'announced' on social media that they are pushing ahead with FoS.

Strange that they are silent on 78MM still, it can't happen in its current date and you would have assumed they would have planned for that eventuality.

...and certain hotel chains in the immediate area around GW are indeed showing as fully booked for that date, whereas they are not fully booked for other similar weekends.

Looking to hold the MM a month after Revival? That’s a bit of overlap with more than a few of the same cars...?

Or could give them some flexibility actually, eg rather than rotating between the 500s & FJs on a 3yr cycle, they can run a 500 and an FJ race, split between the 2 events.

Could be interesting.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t try to do some sort of Speedweek event again but hopefully with spectators this time.
